Citibank Mastercard to Visa

After talking with the folks at the Chase executive office, I won't qualify for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card until after the new balances post which will be after the 30 day mark. My statements closed last week & earlier this week so that my utilization reduction won't post until after the 30 day period. In 6 months I have to get a new car so I don't want a lot of inquires on my report so I'm going to wait on the CSP until sometime after I've gotten my car. In the mean time, I still would like a Visa card to round out what I have so that I have one of each. My Citibank Dividend Mastercard is being offered in a Platinum Select Visa option and the Thank You Mastercard comes in standard and Preferred versions. Is it possible to switch from a Mastercard to a Visa? I want a Visa since I like to travel and have found that outside the US different places take one over the other with Cash being preferred. Since I just got the limit increased on both plus a "loyalty" bonus I figure I'll wait a month or two before requesting the change over even though it's a soft pull.

Re: Citibank Mastercard to Visa

You can switch over to visa and vice versa. All they require is that the account be at least 12 months old, or for any promotional APR to have ended, whichever is longer.

Keep in mind that they require a 45 day processing period to change payment networks although a few have reported it being completed sooner.
