I wanted atleast 5K on this card but unsure of possibility of growth.. been maxing it out every month, havent requested a cli yet because you need 6 months but not holding my breath.. Anyone w/experience with this?

Re: Close out new TD Cash Card

What was the goal of app'ing the card?  It's a 3% dining/2% groceries card, are you eating out more than $1k a month?

It has a $0 AF so it's not going to cost you money to hold on to it.  I would recomend holding it at least a year and put regular dinining expensis on it and ask for a CLI at that point.  Then decide if you want to close it.

I would not close it if the rewards are useful to you but pay it off multi times in a month if necessary.

Re: Close out new TD Cash Card

TDBank has been good to me, I opened my card via the Secured option last June about three months after my Chapter 13 discharge, I opted to drop the maximum $5,000 into a "locked" interest bearing savings account, and literally six months to the day after I made my first charge, they unsecured my card, switched it to the 3-tier rewards structure (secured cards get a flat 1% across the board), refunded half of my annual fee, set my initial unsecured limit at the same $5,000 level, and finally, unlocked the savings accout with the security deposit (which had earned $1.14 in interest).  So far at least, I've found their customer service to be extremely good as well.

Long story short, my advice would be to hang on to the card; it doesn't cost you anything with no annual fee, and hey, 3% for dining and 2% for groceries, while not the absolute best in the industry, is better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Re: Close out new TD Cash Card

As an FYI it's usually considered bad form to close out a card less than 12 months old.  If you ultimately decide you don't want to keep it just sockdrawer it until the 12 months is up and if you still want to close it go ahead and do so.

It's possible to grow this card to at least $20K but if you started out at $1K you just barely made it over the finish line and TD is a conservative issuer so a big increas in CL at 6 months is no sure thing.    At least you can say that you earned a decent SUB.

Re: Close out new TD Cash Card

In addition to what's already mentioned upthread, when it comes to unsecured TD core cards, they're usually fairly conservative so anything in the realm of SL $500 to $1K is barely "making the cut".  That said, if you would like to grow the card, keep in mind that any CLI requests are always HP, unless your account qualifies for any auto-CLIs.

Since the [AAoA, AAoYA] damage is already done, and if the rewards are suitable for your spending, I would keep it and see how it fares going forward.  Your decision, of course.

Interesting; last year, long before I found this site, I opened a secured card via CapitolOne, only to discover the $1,000 limit was hamstrung because multiple payments lead to an AML protocol which puts payments on hold for up to 12-days before the money is released to the account.  This annoyed me to no end, and when I then found out CapOne is very stingy with card graduations, I opted to close the account after only 6-weeks.  Yeah, my credit scores took a small hit, but they didn't drop below where they were before I applied for that card.

Re: Close out new TD Cash Card

It isn't a function of your credit score, it can lead to the perception that you're a SUB chaser or you apply for credit on impulse,  neither of which issuers find particularly endearing.

So, I was kind of thinking by closing the account after only 6-weeks they'd be less than enamored with me and possibly blackball me for a long time.  That was in June of 2020, almost six months to the day later, they sent me a pre-approved E-Mail for a Quicksilver card with three times the limit.  Yeah, I was pretty surprised.
