i think your lack of usage and not having an amazon prime account are the best reasons you have given for closing it....
^^ This. If I didn't have Prime and/or use it that much, then maybe? But seeing as I have a 10K limit, Prime and use it weekly - nope! Plus not sure why you had to log in to check fraudulent charges. Could setup alerts to be notified of charges, especially if you weren't using it. But...yeah...pretty much + what everyone else has said.
Will add, as someone who recently had a fraudulent charge on my card, Syncrhony was surprisingly (at least to me, for some reason) superb to deal with. I had no issues when reporting it and they instantly set up a new account. They were almost right up there with Discover in this regard IMO.

$120 gift card sub
I guess I should be added more detail to what was confusing me. This user had made multiple posts over time worried about risk/susceptibility to AA. Taking a SUB and basically immediately cancelling is one of the very first things I've read as a no-no on these forums. I understand this was OPs only Synch card, but it seems risky if more Synch cards are ever desired. This behavior just doesn't track with OPs other posts regarding fear of AA.

I don't think the long term effects were thought about. If this was an amex, they'd probably lose all subs for life. In this case, the $120 was all they wanted. They were warned by multiple people not to apply because of their string of denials, but they did it anyways to get the sub. I don't get the whole trying to rationalize it. They didn't have prime when they apped, it shouldn't be a reason for closure now. They didn't have prime because they don't shop at Amazon, that shouldn't be a reason for closure now. Just call it what it was, sub chasing. It's not like it's frowned upon here, people will just remind you to be smart about it.
Agreed. ^
$120 GC can be a lot of Money in the right place, though at a place that OP doesn't shop much still doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
It being worth the HP is subjective, as most people's profile can weather the imact without much loss to momentum. But given the history laid out in other threads, the impact of a new account just sets them back even further to that goal. So IMO that $120 GC cost more than a simple HP.

Honestly, If I can never get a card with Sync again I don't think I really care. I still don't understand why people love them so much when as others have said they are subprime lender that likes to push fees and defered interest as much as possible. Also my mothers experince with them and having me help in the past during the HSN Comenity to Synchrony migration left much to be desisred about them not caring at all and being worthles. She had to mail in check to them or face a late payment on her credit report and fees because she could not make a payment another way...
Brand name banks have likely tightened down so regardless if I got this or not I don't think it would have changed the sittuation.
I think this thread has run it's course and can be locked if wanted...
Those that stated to set up usage notification are correct. Also, all of my accounts are set up as paperless. Statement notifications are emailed. Most are zero.

Gotcha. Thanks for the summary.
scratch post.......OP wishes to close out. GL OP
they are subprime lender that likes to push fees
You've said this multiple times, been asked about it multiple times, & you still (unless I missed it) haven't answered it. What fees?
You got the card for the SUB...ok, good. Many do that. You want to cancel it because you got your SUB & the card has no use to you beyond this. Ok, good. Many do that.
Just leave it be. No need to continue on about a lender you don't want, don't care about, & clearly seem to now have bad feelings about from history. You chose to deal with them to get a SUB & you're now complaining about them when nothing bad happened to you? Seriously, just own it & move on. You're running in cirlces to justify closing a card instead of just owning you SUB chased them.
You've got a poor understanding of things (from your first post) & your misunderstandings & personal preferences caused you to close it. Story done.
