Closed Fingerhut

I closed my Fingerhut account today but am a little nervous because it was my oldest account. I opened it in Dec'14 but never used it, was my 1st attempt to establish credit but had no idea what I was doing & got discouraged fast. So glad I opened it because it because it benefited my AAoA when I decided to try again. It is probably why I was able to open a Amazon acct & Cap 1 non-secured) in Dec'15. Thank you Fingerhut, you served your purpose, even though I never used it. I have read here that the account will remain on my reports for 10 yrs, I am hoping my AAoA doesn't change since I really have none. LOL Smiley LOL

Re: Closed Fingerhut

glad you closed it, i hated fingerhut when i had it. it will report positive for the next 10 years. so your AAOA is not going to be hit by this now, just utilization as you lowered your overall credit availability

Re: Closed Fingerhut

My husband has a Fingerhut card with a cl of $700, he got it around our bk discharge or maybe a little bit before. He has never used and it doesn't really want it. His scores are almost 700 now, will it hurt his scores to close it now or should he just keep it open? They may close it anyway for him not ever using it, but im not sure. He has 2 cap one cards and is an au on a couple of mine. We are planning on putting our home up for sale in fall of 2017 and are trying to get our scores higher to get a better rate when we buy another home. Thanks for the help.

Re: Closed Fingerhut

An account that is less than 2 years old shouldn't hurt your AAoA even after 10 years! It's not like you're closing a card from the 90s! Always good to trim the fat!

Re: Closed Fingerhut

I cant hate on Fingerhut as they did help kickstart my rebuild, had them before years ago, but did just close them as well as i have moved on with enough credit. Even though their prices are high,, there are a few deals to be had if your strategic enough, at least you know what your getting. Its not like you order something and they surprise you with costs your werent expecting. They have tables that show you charges with shipping, ny buggest gripe nore than the prices ;( , and even show you how much you will pay if you pay minimum etc. So they may not be great but certainly no Credit OneSmiley Happy

Congrats @ Emmagolden for moving on, it only gets better.Smiley Happy

Congrats @ jon85 as wellSmiley Happy

@luv2cruise, if you dont use it , you certainly can close it, as others say it will remain on his cr for 10 years. Its said its best to have 3 cards for max fico scoring so im not sure about the AU deal but maybe you can pick up a store card to compliment his line up, depending on his score( and one you will use as i believe you should at least go for cards you will use) best of luckSmiley Happy

Re: Closed Fingerhut

Thanks for the input, We will close his Fingerhut account then. He just got approved for a Barclays Reward MC with a cl of $500 so that should help with the closing of the Fingerhut. He has 2 Cap One cards, now the Barclays and he is an AU on my Overstock card too.
