I closed my Best Egg Visa account today. I opened it a couple of years ago when it first launched. At the time, the intro rate was solid, and the credit limit was generous for a new card. Rewards were just average—basic cash back—but it was enough to justify keeping the account open and using it occasionally to keep it active.
Recently, though, things have changed. After months without a mobile app, they finally launched one, but it's clunky and not much better than the website, which has also been hard to use.
What pushed me to cancel was the new $4 monthly fee they just introduced (as of my May statement). I called customer service after seeing the charge. It took 15 minutes to get someone on the line, and when I finally spoke with a rep, they told me there’s nothing new included with the fee, just that I’d continue earning the same cash back as before.
For me, that’s not worth $48 a year, especially with a card I barely use and a digital experience that hasn’t improved much. I originally got the card as part of a credit-building strategy and to try something new, but it’s no longer offering enough value to keep it.
Just sharing in case others are in the same boat or considering this product.
From their site it looks like they shut new applications down a year ago. I wonder if the new fee is a passive aggressive way to try and get existing customers to close the card on their own accord. 🤷🏼

It very much feels like that.
