My Discover IT is my joint oldest card with my Amex Delta Gold, they were literally opened on the same day.
I never, ever, use my discover anymore. I just make a small charge every six months.
I am all for a simple life.
Is there any major issues that would be caused by closing it, as it is my joint oldest card? The Delta card remains open, is used daily, and has grown from 1k at opening to 15k over 7 years.
Thanks all!
the only impact will be utilization - but if this can be dropped without affecting your util, then you are good to go

Youll keep history up to 10years. Since you opened another card that same day, no age will really be lost. The utilization would be only factor to consider.

You can always downgrade the Delta Gold to a Delta Blue if the AF no longer proves worthwhile.
A joint Discover is my second-oldest card, so I understand how it can be a bit of a PITA. $2k to $3k since 2014. Other cards' SLs are commonly ~$20k these days.
Cosigner DM and I have both dealt with a few perfectly ordinary charges being declined as Discover was concerned about fraud. At least once they sent replacement cards to the other person's address (a card meant for me in CA went to her in NY).
I rarely use it, but I like to keep it open in case I end up shifting further from travel points to cash back.
@ldkcivilservantI mean if its NO AF. I dont see why you should close it. Make a charge once or twice a year or have something small on auto pay to it and then have your discover on auto so you dont miss a payment but I see no reason to close your card.
AF or not this tells me that you would definitely like to close the card and is a valid reason imho. "I never, ever, use my discover anymore." Since others have confirmed that age won't be affected as long as there are no negative impacts on utilization then I would close it.
