Coming Soon: USAA to release a Travel Rewards Credit Card

No details beyond what's in the title but the head of USAA's Retail Banking was asked yesterday in an employee meeting about potential changes to USAA credit cards and he mentioned that a new travel card is in the works.  Presumably it would be a 2023 release.

Interesting!

Have you heard anything since about a potential release date, details, etc.? I was going to apply for the vanilla Preferred Cash Rewards card soon to take advantage of the intro 0% APR for 15 months promo, but would wait if USAA were about to issue a new and better card.

I've also been keeping an eye out, but I'm not holding my breath.

I wish USAA would be more competitive to NFCU's cards.

You and me both. Smiley Indifferent

I have three of 'em - USAA Rewards Visa (useless), USAA Preferred Cash Rewards Visa (old Limitless, also useless) and the Cash Rewards Plus Amex (5% gas).  Of the three, the Amex is the only one worth bothering with.

I don't close the other two since I keep thinking that eventually USAA might start allowing PCs, but even that is assuming they start offering something worthy of a PC.  The new travel card could fit the bill, but like you I'm not holding my breath.

Unrelated side note:  Over the last 10 years, my USAA cards are the only ones I ever had issues with false fraud declines.  I've mentioned before that I'd never depend one in a situation where dealing with drama would be especially awkward.

I agree.  Earlier this year I had a USAA AMEX charge declined checking out at a military base exchange.  I was trying to use that card for the 5 percent rebate for military base purchases.  I had to reach for my AMEX Platinum card instead.  Later I called USAA and they cleared the false fraud flag.  It seems they are overly sensitive to fraud if they are denying purchases at a base exchange.
