Re: Consumers Credit Union (IL) data points?

Yesterday was 12th and my autoloan auto debit did not go through (with my due date being 25th) and i was like OMG i need to call asap & be on phone like hours trying to fix this issue but to my pleasant surprise I  spoke to someone named Bibiana and everything was sorted out within 10 minutes. She had access to all the details of my account , Very clear communication and i am relieved that my auto debit set up is taken care of . If anyone else has any issues wtih accounts or loans  just call the main number and the extension 9656 and talk to Bibiana.

I guess on monday after the conversion weekend when i called their system was not updating anything so i couldnot get answers. But today it seems everything was back to normal except may be rewards checking status display.

I do love this CU and i am happy with my CC, autoloan and rewards checking , and especially their Express shot app through which  i can deposit checks from my phone and get the funds the very next day .Most reps are very friendly and helpful and some are unfortunately like the one i dealt with earlier who did not pay attention to details. But thankfully there are others more experienced who will sort things out quickly incase of any problem.  If we can get to talk to the right person who knows and has access to details then everything goes smooth with them. This is my favourite CU so far.

I did ask them about the rewards tracker and they said they were expecting it to be back up and running this week, so hopefully that's the case! It makes it so much easier to know when you hit the debit & credit thresholds!

Re: Consumers Credit Union (IL) data points?

My CCU Visa (Cash rewards) was compromised today. I did not know about it, but I got a call from the fraud department saying they declined a transaction. I confirmed I did NOT make that transaction and they closed the card and are sending me a replacement card. But the card has never been declined when I was attempting a transaction on the suspicion of fraud (not false positives). So I do have to say I am satisfied with their fraud detection.

However, I cannot find a way for me to be texted or notified via app about every transaction - something that is available with most bank credit cards. That worries me a little.

Re: Consumers Credit Union (IL) data points?

They must do CLI reviews on a periodic basis - both my account and my parents got a CL doubling CLI - theirs from $5K -> $10K, mine from $10K->$20K! It happened within the past week or so, and we've both had our accounts since around the beginning of the year.

I don't think it's probably usage based - I put as close to $1k on it as I can, and they probably do 1500-2000/mo. Still, a pretty nice bump w/o a HP!

Re: Consumers Credit Union (IL) data points?

Thats awesome! heyryan. 20k from 10k is fantastic with sp. They do grow with their members. My card is (opened in august) with SL of 6500 currently i am utilizing their 1.99 BT offer and earning interest on that Smiley Wink)

Before the BT offer my local walmart purchase earned 3% cash back. Now i am using it only for BT offer. Once that ends i will use it again for purchases. Hopefully will receive auto cli after few months as well!. I do love this CU .now everything is smooth with my autoloan after the initial hickups . Now autodebit happens without any issue.

Got my checking interest yesterday Smiley Happy)

And hey thanks to you i am beginning to earn using my paypal business debit card too. If you didnt tell me about it i wouldnt know its existence. This month i made nice little 45$ cash back . Hehe.

Wondering about the cash rebate card. Is there a minimum redemption? Is redemption by increments?

There's no minimum or manual redemption. They just give you a credit when your statement closes, and subtract it from your balance due. It makes it pretty simple.

Re: Consumers Credit Union (IL) data points?

I have this checking/cc combo and have hit the bonus now for a couple years, its very well worth it.  To hit the tiers is quite easy, if you have any questions regarding it, feel free to ask.  For the 12 debit transactions, just load up your amazon balance for 50 cents 12 times, takes a couple minutes.  Well worth the $920 earned each year, not including the $120 cash back from the CC (i only use the CC to tier out, its not a great cash reward card).

For hitting the CC tier, I only use the card on stuff I cant get a high return on with other cards (non grocery due to Amex blue pref and non gas due to costco cc).  This way I'm only losing about 10 bucks in rewards on the CC tier itself.

I love credit unions, also belong to Alliant for their 3% cash back credit card, awesome card.  Their savings acc is also very good.  Only downside to Credit unions is they treat your application like a freaking loan, so its a bit of work, but well worth it long term.

So in summary, I recommend their Checking with the cash back CC to hit the max tier.  I also recommend taking a look at Alliant for their 3% CC.  I stick the cash bonuses in their Savings which is pretty decent currently at 1.5%, nice little emergency fund.  Do all this and churn travel cards and you're on your way to being a CC samurai.

Yes, the 4.59% on up to $20K is pretty good, especially now that the stock market is a little less "guaranteed".   The Amazon gift card use makes it easy to make the 12 debit transactions on each card.    I know that there is another CU who doesn't like this and wants "real" debit use, but CCU seems OK with this so far.    I only use the CC to make a gift card purchase (through a portal) each month incurring no net loss, easier for me than trying to use them throughout the month and making sure you meet the $1000 threshold.
