Credit Card Offers vs. Opt-Out

Greetings myFICO Family ~ I have been excited seeing the many posts regarding Macy’s upgrades, Chase’s offers, etc., so I wondered why I wasn’t receiving anything. I logged into my Chase account and clicked on the offers tab and the message below appeared. I just looked at my hard copy TU report and under Credit Report Messages it reflects ~ “PROMOTIONAL OPT-OUT: This file has been opted out of promotional lists supplied by TransUnion. (Note: This opt-out has no expiration date.)”

Yep . . . I remember completing the form to request a permanent opt-out of credit card and insurance offers and mailed the form and documents to OptOutPrescreen . . . So I think that could be the reason I’m not getting any “pre-approved” offers . . . but if I’m already a card holder (i.e. Macy’s, Chase, AmEx, etc.) my opting-out shouldn’t matter. I guess that I will leave the permanent opt-out in place. I can’t win them all.Smiley Surprised

Re: Credit Card Offers vs. Opt-Out

@babygirl1256, I've considered opting out, and may still do so in the future, but if nothing else, my "credit ego" likes it when I get offers, even if I have no plans on taking the bait.  Smiley Tongue

Re: Credit Card Offers vs. Opt-Out

That is a very common pop up for Chase, even if you have not actually opted out of pre-screened offers. The very next post from this ironically, the OP has posted about the same message from the Chase pre-approval tool.  If you would ever like to change your opt-out/opt-in status, it is as easy as visiting this site and clicking on the button at the bottom of the page. Re: Credit Card Offers vs. Opt-Out

Doesnt really matter for me to opt out or not, when I lived in Idaho my mailbox was bombarded with preapproved/selected offers, at my new location they are few and far between so it does matter where you live.

^ Legit the reason I haven't opted out.   I love having a little positive snail-mail  Smiley Wink

Ficoproblems247 ~ Perhaps I misunderstood your response, "The very next post from this ironically, the OP has posted about the same message from the Chase pre-approval tool." as I've never received a pre-approval from Chase. I've had the same Chase account SL since 2011.

Was referring to this post that you commented on that had the same verbiage as what you received.

Re: Credit Card Offers vs. Opt-Out

@gdale6 my area must be a prime location for the offers to be sent to. I get way too many of them. It seems like a waste of paper. Personally, I just receive updates on hot cards and offers from the MF community.
