Credit Card Recon Advice

Hey folks,

I've seen many posts on this forum about folks having success with recon credit card denials via backdoor numbers.  I, unfortunately have not been successful at all.  In fact the customer service reps have been nothing but rude and condescending.  I'm going to the garden for a while, but I'm wondering how folks approach these call since I've had nothing but bad experience when I've attempted to recon. on a card application.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be awesome!

Re: Credit Card Recon Advice

The card is discover - was sent a preapproval in the mail and was denied but offered opportunity for co applicant - but that isn't an option.

Reasons were accounts opened too recently - which I understand but BofA was willing to give me a low cli when I explained my work and salary, etc.

I called the backdoor number on the forums

Try to find a phone number for an executive office. Explain your situation, maybe they can give you something.

Re: Credit Card Recon Advice

When they offer to approve you if you have a co-signer, it usually means that your credit profile is already borderline and the ONLY way they can approve you is if you have a co-signer. This is hard, if not impossible, to recon without a co-signer. Even if you get approved with a co-signer, it will be a low limit.

AMEX: $25,000, CSR: $10,000, Chase Priority Club: $1,500, Freedom: $5000, Freedom Unlimited: $1000, Discover: $21,000, BoA $11,000, WF Cash Wise: $5000

EQ FICO - 753
TU FICO - 755
EX FICO(AMEX) - 766

Re: Credit Card Recon Advice

Swifttone thanks for the insight. I'm not going to push it anymore with discover, and plan to chill in the garden for two years or so. I've just read so many success stories from folks with limited credit profiles who have had success when the recon via backdoor numbers..

I was just wondering what folks' strategy on the phone is because last two cases I've been shut down and rather rudely. (Other case was chase freedom- I had a feeling I wouldn't get approved but took the risk bc I was invited to apply as well).

Oh well!

Re: Credit Card Recon Advice

Sorry for my delay - I've been traveling.

Discover pulled Transunion and my TU (FICO) score is: 719

I have no accounts in collections, no public record and no delinquincies in the last two years.

I have a secured cap one mastercard CL $500.00 (0 balance) , a BoA Americard CL $500 (0 balance) and a Platinum Visa from my CU CL $2500 (0 balance)

I recently bought a car but that loan has yet to report to my CR.

AAoA just shy of two years.

I have high student loan debt (I just finished my phd - so I'm just beginning to pay down the student debt).

I'm not going to apply with a joint applicant, I'll just wait another year.  Just figured I would apply since I got the pre-approval.

Thanks for the responses folks!
