Credit Card Reward Points for Onboard Expenses During A Cruise

Hi Everyone,

I'm going on a cruise soon (RCCL). It's my understanding that in the casino you can use your room key to pull cash out. All withdraws are then billed to your credit card at the end of the cruise (up to $3-5k per day).

My friend went recently and he used his Costco credit card. It was coded as "Travel" so he ended getting 3% cash back on everything he pulled out at the Casino. Needless to say, he took advantage of that.

My question is with the Amex Platinum. I am not sure if this would count as 5x points since it's only Hotels and Flights. When I booked the cruise I only got 1x points on the fare.

If it is coded as travel, I am wondering if there is a better card to use in my portfolio to use. I'm not sure amex gives anything more than 1x for "other" travel expenses.

If anyone has been able to do this -- please let me know. I hear that I could use the Chase Saphhire Preferred and get 3x points for travel. I do not currently have one, but my girlfriend has an 80k offer for it.
