Credit Cards that allow co-signers ??

Hi all!  So, I currently have less than stellar credit (TU: 588, EQ: 507, EX: 580) and have one $500 credit card from my local credit union.  However, I have a decent income ($55,000) and an extremely credit worthy cosigner with a score of 750+, with an income of nearly $300,000 a year, verifiable.  I am looking to clean up my credit, and have been rebuilding for 2 years now -- my starting scores were all in the mid-400's!!  I want to add a decent credit card, or line of credit to my file using a co-signer to help boost my score more.  I'm looking for a line of between $5000-10,000.00.

I tried with NFCU, but they allow a Guarantor only for lack of income, not to make up for low credit scores.  Does anyone know of any banks, credit unions or big name credit card companies who allow co-signers ?  I was able to get an approval with CareCredit (Synchorny Bank) using this co-signer a year ago, at a $5000 limit. .  I've heard of BOA being a possibility, and some others.  My goal is to get a decent line of credit, pay it down responsibly and often, to raise my score more and qualify for further credit down the road. Sidenote: I'm 33 years old, a male nurse living in CA.

Any and ALL advice on where to look is greatly appreciated.  Thank you :-)

Re: Credit Cards that allow co-signers ??

Can you offer more details as to how you got your low scores, for example, lack of credit, lates, BK, etc.... ??? Can you post when any/all of these occurred ??? Depending upon your situation, there's several different ways to increase your scores. Post some more information regarding your CR's and you'll receive more accurate information and advice. Thank's !!

I'd also recommend secured CC's in your name. While being listed as an AU will help slightly, at your age, you definitely need to stand on your own.

Re: Credit Cards that allow co-signers ??

Drew -- thanks! My credit scores suffered years ago when I was ill and fell behind on many bills. I have 3 collections, one open and in disputes and two paid. Also several have recently aged off. All bills now have been current for over a year. My UTIL is low-ish, about 37% overall. I need to thicken my file as well. So I am thinking the best way to do this is add a credit card with a higher limit, or a line and use it each month and pay it down often. My

Re: Credit Cards that allow co-signers ??

Your file doesn't sound too bad. I'd try and GW the collection companies who are PIF and any other derogs you have that are PIF. I'd also try a PFD for that one collection and any others you still owe and plan to pay. I'd try and get your UTI down, preferably by paying down the card/s you have, while trying to open a couple more accounts to increase your CL's and thus improve your UTI too. I would try and avoid opening up any accounts with any of the predatory lenders, such as Credit One or First Premier. You may be tempted to, and if you can't get any other cards, including secured, than it's better than nothing, but it will be expensive and your CL's will grow very little, if at all. I'd seriously try and open a couple of secured cards. Cap One is usually quite easy, and many of the CU's are guaranteed approval w/o a HP. Did you check the Cap One prequal webpage ??? Probably won't offer alot, but you never know. Cap One is great for starting over. I don't know your financial position, but if you can spare 500. - 1000. I'd open 2 more secured cards ASAP. If you can be listed as an AU, that will help too, but not near as much as getting your own accounts. Too many people waste too much time trying to change their files and raise their scores thinking all they need to do is become an AU and this will out weight, and overshadow, their derogs and low scores. It doesn't. It will help slightly, but that's it. You're not going to go from 550 to 725 simply because you became an AU on a few accounts.
It could help your file if you take out a personal/installment loan and have your friend co-sign, but even than, it would probably be better if you just did a small secured personal loan.

Re: Credit Cards that allow co-signers ??

Get her/him to add you to some existing old ones, even better, but only with low balances. If they max out, that can hurt. I always thought being an auth user could only HELP you not HURT you, but it goes either way.

Care credit lets u have a cosigner, I know for a fact discover does too.

You will be just fine. In less than a year you will have good credit if you follow the directions of members here.  I have been considering a small loan as well. Oy vey, credit scores are such a fun game to play.

All good advice from other members.

U.S. Bank allows to have co-applicants on their cc. Hope that helps. Good luck!
