So Ive been on the credit repair path for about a year now. I opened a credit one account because i didnt have any current open lines of credit. I paid my bill on time and in full every month. Cred 1 never incresed mi OLOC. (which was $500) On the anny date of my account being opened I get an email from Cred 1 about the oppurtunity to open a 2nd LOC with them for $800. I feel like theyre throwing peanuts at me beccause that woud be another HP on my profile and AF that I have to worry about. Im going to decline it becasue Im patiently waiting to get the oppurtunity to apply for another NFCU card and also have my local CU secured card graduate to unsecured. Hopefully Ill be able to close this cred 1 account once I receive a better card in hand. *sigh*
Congrats on resisting temptation!
Agreed; nice job not doing it. There are so many other (non-fee-harvesting) fish in the sea.
thanks...I feel like if theyre comfortable giveing me a 2nd line they should just increase my limit by that much. Just seeing how they bait those indiviuals that may seem desperate for another card.
appreciate it! i really cant wait to close this account becasue it isnt doing for me anymore. It served as a stepping stone and thats about it.
A second CreditOne account?
Exactly! thats what they offered me. No thanks!!
BigJay, Not knowing your current credit score or financial situation, the best thing to say to you is, let CO go.
I did and I am going to bore you and anyone else reading this thread, my story:
19 years ago, I burned AmEx for over $170K in cards. Cap1 for over $50K on a card and over $20K on a car loan. Life hit me hard and I lost everything. Filed BK, paid cash for everything after for years as no one would touch me. It was June last year when CO approved me for a $300 Visa. Two weeks later, they upped me to $450. In October, Cap1 gave me a Plat MC (now QS) with a $1K CL (my choice). By now, my credit score went from 566 to 680. In Feb 2019 came Discover with an unheard of $10K CL on an IT Chrome (kept that limit), Cap1 gave me a QS1 $1K CL (my choice).. Didn't need CO anymore, so I closed the card a month and a half before the first year was up. I did not want to pay that AF that was to be billed monthly. Plus, they processed payments slow, credited my payments slow, and would not increase my CL. They served a purpose. Greatful for that.
In March, my credit score went to 700 - 720 across the agencies.
April saw AmEx give me a BCE with a $1K CL (upped it to $2K). In May they gave me a Hilton Ascend with $6300 CL, a Platinum Card, and a Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant with $7800CL. Two weeks ago, Disco gave me a IT Cash Back with $4500 CL. Hmm.. time to garden.
My credit score has gone up to 760 - 780 as of today.
Telling you all this to say, when looking for cards, companies, etc., don't go chasing for CLs, SUBs, or the flavor card of millennials.
Work on your credit score first. Easy to do. I am not interested in high CLs. I tell the companies what levels I want, what I can affort to pay back. I do not do revolving. Maybe revolve ater after I reach my 800 plus credit score. Good luck on your credit journey. Plan wisely.
As soon as you get a better card, CLOSE that thing down lol
