Re: Credit card without confirmations?

To wrap it up, the orders were being cancelled by Walmart, not the credit card companies.  Walmart.com's given reason was bogus, as confirmed by their 1-800-WALMART customer service representative.

I've had the cards for years (the Discover for 32 years), so I suspect the card companies were balking because of the pandemic--my card spending has been low in the last couple of years.  $250 tires probably triggered some software somewhere.  Ah, technology...wasting everyone's time (says this computer programmer). You are correct, profiles and spend habits must make issuers look at each different.  For some reason I had trouble with the big boys and all the little guys have been better.  Have high scores, good income, PIF, however each family member wife and kids has an AU card.  Main 3 cards split at least 3k tranactions however about 2/3 are AU swipes which is the only thing I can think of that is a out of norm.  I am the small spender of the family

We are similar in that my scores and household income are decent (although likely modest relative to yours and many of those who frequent these boards) and always PIF. Same situation with my AmEx card too - three AU on that account, two of whom do the vast majority of the spend on that particular card. The other account has no AU on it though, for what that's worth. My SO and oldest have their own accounts as well, so not everything goes through my cards.

1. For CapitalOne, you can set custom alerts: open the app -> click "profile" tab -> click "alerts and notifications" -> click the specific card -> you can set Instant Purchase Notifications for transactions < $X, or foreign transactions, etc.

2. This isn't a normal thing. Have you had someone use cards fraudulently before? Do you travel a lot (including domestically?)? Did you just get the cards, are they new or your first cards? In any case, it might be worth a call if it is happening with every purchase. I have had issues in the past a bit like this from traveling a lot with new cards, and even though it's a pain I called them and told them where I was planning on being for the next few months and don't have that issue anymore.

Rebuilding: FICO - EX: 746 / TU: 756 / EQ: 753

Capital One Platinum Secured (RIP) $500 - Petal $1600 - Discover IT $10000 - Apple Card $7500 - Venmo Card $3200 - Amex BCE $9000

Never PiF on a 0% APR, always PiF otherwise - 8.5+ years since last BK

General reaction to X brand card IRL:

AMEX revolver = oh cool I think my mom has that | AMEX charge = oh nice I think my dad has that | Chase anything other than freedom flex = I thought you had to be like rich for that | Discover = oh cool I got mine when I was a freshman | all the random no-AF fin-techs that would offer me credit for weird reasons without fees when I had a FICO of like 370 that gave me limits of like $287 or something: WHOA that’s got such a nice design, how did you get that?
