Since my credit sucks and I have a too-recent baddie (90-day late) I am not wasting any hard pulls right now. I'll be getting a Discover secured in a bit.
But I get an itchy finger and so on a whim filled out a pre-approval thingie for a Wayfair store card, out of curiosity. And got pre-approved!
My first thought was:

And I don't. But, they (I think) checked Equifax, and Equifax is my best score right now... so...could they, would they have approved me?
But the thing is, I don't really need a Wayfair credit card right now. I'm not going to get one, just because I (in theory) maybe would be approved.
I could use a different Comenity store card, though. (Big Lots has some appeal.)
So, what sayeth the rest of you? I'm staying in the garden for a while yet, but maybe in the next few months...? Maybe? Is there any hope of this, or is Comenity/Wayfair's preapproval feature just a big old tease and they wouldn't have followed through?
Thanks for your advice! I tried to get the shopping cart trick to work in Overstock, but it doesn't appear to be going for it. I'll contemplate where I'd like to get a store card with Comenity.
Ah, yes! I use Chrome too. That might explain it. Thanks for the tip!
SCT cards are no longer SP's, per FireMedic's excellent thread. The CLI's on them typically are still SP though, which is nice.
I have a soft spot for Green Dot btw. My credit rebuild began two years ago with that card (was First Choice Primor back then).
Anyway, I have the Wayfair store card, opened it in March at 1.5k (got it as a SCT SP), and it is now up to 7.5k. Put new living room furniture (just bought our first home 11/17) on the card, took advantage of the special financing. So you can get yourself something nice, or use the account for UTI padding, or both.
Good luck!
Well, I was a fool and applied to Overstock. (No Shopping Cart Trick, as that seems pointless now?) I got the dreaded 7-10 day message. I guess some people get approved after that...but...I don't believe I will!
At least the HP was on Experian, which has only one other HP, so I guess it's not the end of the world...
Forestgreenrover, yes, I like my Green Dot too! It's been very useful.
Just like the Cake is a Lie...
The Shopping Card Trick is a Lie...
Its no longer an SP, Its a HP....

If you are going with Comenity, might as well try for a co-branded card. The easiest one to get is Sportsmans Guide Visa. Be sure and load the "Buyers Guide" subscription while paying. That's what triggers the popup. Do not back out and refuse to buy what you placed in your cart once you get approved. That's grounds for getting the card cancelled before you get it.
Rule #1. Do not apply for cards just to have a card. Try to stay away from store cards without being co-branded with a major financier.
Thanks everyone.
At least I wasted a hard pull on a card I wanted! I was thinking, "It would be cool if I got this card because this store has stuff I could actually use and at decent prices." But I don't think it was meant to be.
I knew it was a long shot...knew it. Oh well!
I hope I've learned my lesson this time. No more inquiries until I apply for a secured card (most likely Discover for starters). I have a real shot at Discover and moreso in probably 3 months, when things have aged a little more.
