DCU Pre-Aprroval - How sure of a sure-thing?

Hey All,

After ignoring a pre-approval notice for up to 5K for a DCU credit card for around 6 months,

I loggod on today to see that I'm pre-approved for up to 10K at a time when it could come in very handy.

How solid are their pre-approvals? Are they inq. sensitive? I have around 17 over the past 2 years on EX,

9 of which are over 12 months old. I have around 15 on EQ and 14 on TU.

Thoughts?

If they are popping up a pre-approval for you chances are it is legit.  Does it give the interest rate as well?  If so thats almost a sure thing

Curious what your relationship is with DCU OP. We've just started a relationship and I'm wondering what we might see in the way of preapprovals down the line. I opened a savings. Then DH got a car loan, opened a savings and checking. I'm joint on that savings and checking.

I also wonder, since it's pre-approved, if it'd be a SP or HP or what. Please keep us posted if you go forward with it.

No interest rate. There's  button that says accept and veritfy but I'm not sure if I want to proceed yet.

Re: DCU Pre-Aprroval - How sure of a sure-thing?

Been a member since around June 2014. Applied on line and I have both checking and savings.

I applied for a home improvement loan soon after with scores in the 730s but was declined for too much new credit -

I got my first CC in April 2014. I tried for a CC with the same loan specialist and they were clear that they had nothing to

offer me. I've since maintained a balance of around 1K in the checking and paid bills here and there.

I started seeing the 5K pre-approval aorund 6 months ago and it just went to 10.

I'll let you know if it's an SP or not if I proceed.

H.

Re: DCU Pre-Aprroval - How sure of a sure-thing?

Across all credit cards, I find the approval process somewhat inconsistent.  Anyways, I applied for DCU Platinum (6-8 mos. ago) with scores in low 700s.  I had the card in hand before they even asked me to become a member (which I then did).  Then I applied for an auto loan and they approved that for 30K over the phone with no income verification.  I ended up leasing a card but that 30K auto loan still sits in my account mgr w/them saying that it is pre-approved.

The preapproval is probably very solid. Whether it's a HP or a SP on the EQ is another story. I've been told it was a HP when solicited for an upgrade to their Rewards offering, and didn't want to find out since once my score with them is above 724 I will be requesting the better APR on my existing Visa.

My partner accepted a preapproved auto loan and never saw a HP.

I was going to garden... Honest!

Is 724 when they give their best rate?

Yep, I was told that the best APR on the credit card is once the score is 724+.

Thanks. I love DCU for how easy it is to know where you would stand with them (auto loans, etc.)
