Re: DISCOVER IS TOUGH WITH CLI'S

I opened up my discover card in 1991...I was a college student at the time. I also opened an account on the same day with Chase, a Visa card. These were the days when cards were dispensed in the student center like water. As of 2011, the Discover that started with a 500 limit, is currently  only at 13,200. The last automatic increase I received from them was in Sept of 2006. The Chase started at 500, and is now at 25K Discover is not generous, but I don't mind. I like the customer service, and I primarily use the card in the 5% cash back categories.  Despite being my oldest tradeline, it is my lowest limit card.

Re: DISCOVER IS TOUGH WITH CLI'S

I agree Discover does not give Auto CLIs that easy. I had mine for three years and no auto cli until this month. I first got the card with 3k limit three years ago. I used it regularly but never carried a balance. Looked forward to those "auto clis" but they never happened. Two months ago, I decided to carry a small balance as a test. Lo and Behold, this week i received an email from Discover that says i earned a credit line increase - "my first auto cli with discover". I am now at $7800 limit.

Discover is a prime card. It is also a good card. My experience with them so far has been very good.

Re: DISCOVER IS TOUGH WITH CLI'S

I had similar experience with my discover. Started with $1500 12/09. Been having 10-15% utilization until 08/10, then I had a month of 40%, and they gave me a $250 auto CLI. I called again last month and they said they had to hard pull, and i was like no.

However, i do agree with the good customer service and usually one no is good for them. I did fall prey to the wallet protection or something when I first started and I cancelled that after a month. It took like two calls, one to tell them I want to cancel, another to recoup the fee for the month after I cancel.

Re: DISCOVER IS TOUGH WITH CLI'S

Discover CS is one of the best. The worst has to be HSBC. Just wanted to say that I got my Discover card with an initial 1.5K limit on a recon approval. Right after 3 months, I got increased to 1800. At the 6 month mark, it increased to 2100. At the 7th month mark, in increased to 2400. In about 2 months, Im hoping it to go to 2700. I use the card a lot. Mainly just for 5% categories up to the cap in cash back they allow($400-$500). I think they like you to carry a balance and the only reason I did was because it was 6 months no interest but as of this month its PIF. I bet you can get CLI if you charge a lot, let it sit for a month or two and then PIF. WHen I do that, it usually follows a CLI.

I wonder how many people have the $50,000 limit they allow on personal cards.

I only know of 1 person on another credit board who has a $50k CL on Discover.  He's been with them for 25 years and parked $300k in their bank for awhile, then asked and was CLI'd up to $50k.  Other than that, I've rarely heard of anyone with even $25k.
