Delta Amex upgrade question

I had a Delta Reserve that I downgraded to Delta Blue during the start of the pandemic since travel wasn't going to happen for me.

I received an offer a couple of months ago to get 20k miles for upgrading to Delta Gold for $2K spend so I took it since I'll start traveling again this summer.

I got the bonus and what do you know I now have an offer to boost to Delta Platinum with another 20K with $2K spend, just a month after receiving the last bonus.

Do you think it wise to continue the upgrade path so soon? Any chance Amex will clawback anything? Heck, if they offer me an upgrade from Delta Platinum to Delta Reserve quickly I might just take that too then since the goal was to get back there any ways.

Oddly enough Amex just gave me a CLI out of the blue once I started using it again. $11K to $15K. I didn't even ask for it.

I don't believe Amex would claw back anything since they are the ones reaching out to you with upgrade bonus offers. "How dare they accept our offers!" sounds ridiculous. Smiley LOL

As long as they are offering and it makes sense for you, go for it!  They are not going to claw back an offer unless you downgrade a card within a year or participate in rewards abuse.  And since you keep the anniversary date of your card, short-term the AFs should be prorated and you'll snag that companion certificate sooner.

Re: Delta Amex upgrade question

I have the Amex green card, and gold delta skymiles card. How could I find out if I have an upgrade offer?

My experience has been that offers with points showed up on a splash screen on a PC browser when I logged in to the AMEX site. That was for the upgrade offers with points. In the case of upgrades with no points, those are frequent, in the list of AMEX merchant offers, along with reminders like personal loan offers, adding an authorized user and Pay Over Time reminders.

When you go to check for pre-approval on the card screen it will either show a splash screen with all of your cards and if there's an offer for them, or the individual card will have a request button instead of apply.

Those are both excellent points to know about! Thank you! I had no idea that upgrade offers, points or no points, would show up when specifically browsing on a PC browser instead of using an iPad! I also didn't realize that they could show up alongside other offers!
