Denied Savings Acct W/Alliant?

Apped online and failed the id verify qs (they asked about a mortgage and I've never had 1).  got the 3-5 day + alliant will contact you message.  called today + they said I was denied/will get a letter.

haven't been denied for a savings acct (or checking) ever.  not in chex.  have multiple accts w/ba, Citibank, chase/wamu, ing, usaa, etc.  ficos in the mid-high 600s.  have a few remaining baddies, but they're all old (2003 is the 'newest').  no derogs since then + have + accts since 1/07.  have 0 inqs on eq (no notice that alliant pulled an inq).  no bk, but do have a pr/unpaid tax lien from 2003.  could that be why they denied me for a savings acct?  geez, even penfed gave me a savings acct lol

any hope of recon or am I sol?

Re: Denied Savings Acct W/Alliant?

I don't think you're SOL because I had a similar situation occur with Alliant.  I was only apping for a savings account since I have plenty of available credit, but their interest rates on a regular savings account are Awsome. and I was looking for a place to park a few buckeroos.  Anyway, Alliant always pulls ChexSystems (CS), in addition to Equifax.  CS had my residence listed as a motel.  While part of it IS a motel, a larger part is an extended stay HOTEL.  I have lived there since 2003 . . . . But when my address popped up as a motel, Alliant declined my application because their policy requires a permenant residence.  After several phone calls and providing extra documentation, including a letter from my landlord (manager), stating the above information was factual; they said OK . . . . butttttt . . . . now they wanted my relatives address in case I moved and they needed to contact me, which I gladly provided (whoever heard or running out on a savings account anyway).  But, finally I was approved for a savings account and for which I hereby swear, promise and affirm; That I will not run out on my savings account and leave Alliant holding the bag (of my money) . . . Try speaking to Angelica in the account services department.  She was very helpful and even advocated for me with her Homeland Secruity Compliance Officer.

I think this has to do with requirements from the Department of Homeland Security. They are pretty strict with address and identity verfications now. The reason why this also applies to savings accounts is a measure against money laundering. CU's seem to be especially afraid of this, but my main bank is also remarkably incompetent in this regard.

Heh, I see Smiley Happy. I could tell you about an ongoing struggle with my main bank over my SSN, which has been ongoing for years now. But I don't want to derail the thread Smiley Wink.

Re: Denied Savings Acct W/Alliant?

What contact number do you use for Alliant? I apped them last week and still haven't heard anything back and would like to call them

Never mind! I just called Alliant and they had me answer two more security questions and told me that my membership pack would go in the mail tomorrow - yay!

Re: Denied Savings Acct W/Alliant?

I was just denied too...

I have no idea why...all my information is correct/current...the only thing this that I lied and said I was a member of my local PTA...

I'm totally confused.  When the rep calls me in "3-5 business days" they had better let me join, otherwise I will be pissed that I wasted an inquiry...

I can't wait...the rep sees that I'm almost 21, yet a member of my local pta...then asks me about it.  hahaha

Maybe I will just call them tomorrow...

EDIT:  In retrospect, maybe it has something to do with my addresses...I have two.  One for school, and one for my parents house....dang.

Why lie? They are going to confirm from the membership database.  You can join the National PTA for $20 or so and do it online and you don't need to be a parent.  If you do that tonight then you could tell them you chose the local by mistake and you meant national (something which with your membership they would be able to confirm)

For me the down the road benefits of belonging to Alliant is worth the investment in joining the National PTA (and if some kids somewhere benefit from it too then all the better)

creditreformer -

Have you verified that your EQ file is not frozen or locked?  You said you "haven't received an alert" that Alliant pulled EQ.  If you did not get an inquiry, they did not pull or couldn't pull.  If they couldn't pull, they couldn't verify ID and will reject your membership and account application.

I had this happen.  Logged into EQ and found my CR was "locked" and had to unlock it.  Once I unlocked it....went right through.   But I got the "couldn't verify ID" error before I unlocked it.

I posted this in the Alliant TIPS thread....it is crucial.
