Denied for AMEX...

Guys,

I just went to the AMEX site and applied for the AMEX blue, or something like that. I was denied. It said I had a 60 day late two years ago and a 30 day late within one year. That sucks.. AMEX goes back two years? That sucks...I thought that with my scores, I could get one from the company. Is there a difference between the types of cards of AMEX? Is there one for lower scores? Also, anyone know the difference between the USAA AMEX I have and one from the company itself? What can or cant I do with the one from USAA that I cant do with the one from the company? Which is better?

AMEX Delta, is a lower score card.  Everyone has been apping for that card and then doing the product change to get the Blue card.

Re: Denied for AMEX...

I would go back and app for Sky Miles Gold-
Much lower criteria for approval- and the INQ's should merge.

Then PC to Blue.

On the Blue- they will look to see and "Serious Derogs" in the last 2 years.

Didnt you pay attention to the last few posts? You dont have excellent scores so you need to back door your way in via the delta card then do a card change. Now you have 2 new inq's and have lost probably 15 points for nothing.

Re: Denied for AMEX...

I had 2 60 day lates that were 22 months old when I applied and got accepted for the Delta Skymiles with a sweet limit.  I agree with everyone else you should go for it.

Re: Denied for AMEX...

Amex is so **bleep** finiky with FR and all that head ache. I applied for Delta and it said I am approved for $1000 instant online. Week later I get a letter asking for FR. I dont have time to deal with Amex Headache when I can get other cards with decent limits. I wasted an inquiry apping for it.

Sorry to hear about your AmEx turndown. I am surprised about the green card! I knew that the charge cards were harder to get, but I still thought that the greenie was doable. I have the identical set of lates, so I'm afraid that I have to thank you for doing my research for me.

After reading pretty much every single post here about AmEx for the last 3 1/2 months, I have decided to app for one in March, after my lates have their respective birthdays. But it won't be unless I have 720 x2 and EQ at 700 or above. I'm not sure why I'm bothering to do this, other than for the look-I-finally-did-it part, plus a little bit of the playing with fire attraction.

As for the USAA AmEx, the only thing that it doesn't do is give you access to the American Express rewards system. But I'm fine with the USAA stuff, it's one point per dollar on anything, the buyer protections are there, you don't get F/R'd (at least I haven't), the app and account maintenance are USAA, not AmEx, their CSR's are also great, you can reallocate your CL's between the MC and the AmEx (I think); it's taken everywhere a "real" AmEx is taken and not taken everywhere the others aren't taken. Umm, what else... your payment is credited when you make it, although it doesn't necessarily show up for a day or two on the screen, it reports the statement balance to all three CRA's, it's not a month behind... It's black, so sometimes the unenlightened might think it's a Centurion! Smiley Very Happy

Really, it's a great card. Along with the MC, it will grow your score and history for you, so that you can go out hunting again when your baddies have passed their birthdays. Smiley Wink
