My Discover card unsecured a few months ago (I got it in September 2020) and I'm not using it much and paying it down every month; it's not my daily driver, which is my only other card, a Cap1 with a $12.5k limit. I finally wondered about the APR today, since while it was secured I was just using my own money, and yikes! 22.99 APR on purchases and 24.99 on cash advances, which of course I don't do.
Is there any time limit on when I could ask for a lower APR? I have no plans to keep a balance, but with the Amazon rewards and holidays coming up, it might be nice just in case. I see from the forums that they want you to wait until the one year mark before asking for a CLI (my card went from $500 to $1800 when it unsecured in, I think, April). I'm wondering if it's the same for an APR reduction.
Or should I just forget about asking, since I don't carry a balance? It's higher even than my Cap1!
Thanks.
You can still ask and see whether your account qualifies for an APR reduction. Worse thing that can happen is they say not at this time. But, if your account is eligible, then you can request it 1x per year.
