Today is the 1st anniversary of my Discover card. I started at $2500, CLI at 6 mo. to $5500. I just phoned and went through the prompts (didn't speak to CSR), asked for a $4500 CLI. Counteroffered $4000 - Total now $9,500, my highest CL . . . . Whooo Hooooo!!!! . . .
This will put my total revolving utilization at about 3%. Hoping for a score increase. Haven't seen any changes in score for about a month now.
Congratulations!
Do I understand it correctly that going through the prompts is just a soft pull? And do you mind asking how you use the card? Do you charge more than their quarterly bonus categories?
Congrats. I got my card sometime in June last year, so my 1 year is creeping up. I wonder if I'll be eligible...I also got a CLI around 6 month mark, so I wasn't going to ask, but I guess I can check in through the automated system.
Congrats again. That's a great CLI - especially for Discover...they can be pretty stingy!
You are correct that it is only a soft pull. But, even going through the CSR is only a soft also. I just wanted to try the automated system. Maybe I could have gotten more with a real human but I doubt it. When you ask for a CLI the CSR just plugs in your income and your request and BINGO, the system pops out a number. Not sure if this is appealable or not. Actually, I don't mind the 42% increase and think it's fair.
As to the card's use; I average about 1200 - 1800 per mo. Always PIF before statement cuts so CR always shows zero balance. I hardly ever exceed the quarterly bonus mamimums. I use it for everyday items . . . gas, groceries and misc.

Wait until 6 monthly statements have dropped since your last CLI. One day less and you'll get an automatic denial.
And . . . Thanks

Thanks for the answers. I guess your good use makes a big difference for generous CLI's. I put maybe 10% of that through my Discover, if at all. So I better leave that one alone .
Thanks for the info itsmeagain. I had not asked for a cli from discover for almost 2 years. I went through the automated system as you mentioned (I hate talking to csr about CLI) and was approved for the $2400 I asked for. My limit increased from $9600 to $12k. I probably could have requested more, but I am happy with this. This will help offset some of the recent CLD I have received.
Thanks again for the info.

Congrats colaltnv . . . . happy I could help . . .
I just received automatic CLI for Discover card, from $9000 to $10800. April was anniversary of my account and also 12 months since my late payment. I currently carry a large balance and haven't shopped using this card for over a year. My credit scores are not stellar, but have been steadily climbing up. They say Discover card is one of the hardest to get approved for, go figure!
I spoke to CSR recently to decrease APR, tough luck. But they did offer promotional APR for new purchases (thanks, but no thanks) and have shown a lot of interest in my business. That earned them some bonus points.
