To add to the Discover CLI experience, and after talking to a friend that has had Discover for about 5-6 years (definitely since after college), I called them up with the number in the back of my card. I had been a bit after the 6 month mark with no auto CLI. I got to speak with a very nice CSR and told her I wanted to double my limit. She asked me for my salary ($83k [I only mention that in case it might be relevant, not to brag.]) and then said she'd have to run my credit again. I then had to wait 24 hours for a decision. She did advise that I may not have anything to worry about, but the credit analyst had to make a final determination. I then called a bit over 24 hours and didn't need to speak to anyone. The automated voice-dude told me my credit limit was recently increased to $4K from $2K! I was so happy. I now have $14k in available credit (just from bank cards, not including, Macys, Target, Crappy CitiExxonmobil, etc) ! 3 years ago to the day I had $0.00 in available credit. In fact, I owed that much in credit...lmao! But my friend with Discover had advised me if you're going to ask for a CLI, to do it in $2K increments. That seemed to make sense, so that's what I did. Now the only "low" CL I have is Barclays ($2500) but I'm going to wait until August as that's when my card expires. They will give me at least double by that time (I think if I ask now, I'll probably just get $4k as well).
$4k from Discover is definitely nice, considering I burned them after college. But all definitely seems forgiven.
To add to Discover CLI experiences: I have the Discover More student card. I got it back in August 09 and they started me with a $500 limit. On my 6th month anniversary with them back in February I called and the auto cli option was available on the phone. I selected it and it asked me what I wanted my limit increased to, to which I replied $1000. I was immediately transferred where I had to reexplain what I was trying to do to a CSR. She quickly declined the increase by doing an "internal review." She sounded apologetic, but I just said "Hey, you guys are the ones that told me to ask for a cli in 6 months, so no big deal."
Strangely enough, here we are a month later and I logged into my account today only to discover that my limit had magically increased to $1000. Oh well, I got what I wanted a month later with the added benefit of the surprise factor ![]()
