Discover Deals - Sales are Promotions?

O.k. Long story short.

Just chatted with an account specialist at Discover - same one twice. Man, hate when that happens. But anyway, I wanted to buy a Coach bag online and it is on sale. Right now, Coach is having a 40-50% sale on certain things. It's called a winter sale. The representative said the Discover Deals would not work and anytime you buy something on sale, then the Discover Deal might not work. She said that the best way to be assured of getting the deal is to buy full price. 

Now, I'm worried about my Ipad I bought through Walmart Online through Discover's portal. It was on sale on Sunday, November 20. She couldn't answer whether this would be a problem. However, the cashback bonus is still "pending". 

Btw, I called on the phone and spoke with a different account specialist and he said that a sale is not a problem. The problem is when you have to enter like a promo code. 

Sorry, for not knowing this. I'm so freaking confused right now and afraid I might have lost out on more than $60 discount on this Ipad  

What has been you guys' experience with this?

In my expereince, YMMV, sales have not had an impact on Discover Deals cashback unless expicitly listed in the T&Cs. The system is looking that you initiated the puchase from the discover portal (using a cookie) and then completed the purchase in the alloted timeframe at the right cart location. 

As examples, I have gotten the "deals" on things I shouldnt have like Apple.com preorders and clerance items from Dell. 

I would say you can expect it so long as its not listed in the limitations. I looked at the Coach listing in my account and didnt see anything specific about sale items.

Thanks so much for your reply JodySmith.  What you are saying sounds like the guy on the phone that I spoke with. But, the CSR I chatted with just seem so sure of herself. This actually makes me feel alot better. I might just go for the purse!! Need a new one big enough for the Ipad I bought through Discover deals.

I think the CSRs have to cover themselves so they will give you the line about can't combine with other promos, etc. But if you are going to buy the purse anyway, and its on sale, and a value to you, the 5% would be a bonus. Just make sure you follow the motions, log into your account/portal, click the shop button, and finalize the cart in the time frame.

Thanks. I will follow all the motions. And it makes a huge difference!!!! 10% not 5%. That is actually 20% off of a coach purse because I am in my first year. It also will help me decide which purse to buy. With such a big of a discount I can go with a little bit more expensive one or also include a wallet
