Discover Graduation with high initial starting limit?

Hi all.

I got an email from discover saying to make sure my contact information is up to date. I got excited because I wondered if this means a graduation is coming soon. I got the card in Feb and started with 200. In June I increased the SL to 1,100. I use it responsibly almost always paying in full and having only once (by mistake) gone over the limit and although it did report, i quickly paid it down more than 90%

My credit score did unfortunately go down from the 640 on my fico dashboard to 590 after having started at 610. Which is interesting because it's back at 610 now.

How do you know when your being graduated and has anyone ever had success with CL after having put down a high (1,100 in my case) Starting limit? Since I knew I would be using the card a lot i tried to have enough but wondering if they would graduate it to anything higher than that.

Re: Discover Graduation with high initial starting limit?

It varies. I started with $200, increased it to $500 a few months in. I graduated with an increase to $1800. I have seen people with $200 get 2000-2500 after graduating. I've also seen people get no increase at all. Most people who deposit the max of $2500, graduate with no increase. There is room for you to get an increase , but wether or not you will is profile dependent.

Re: Discover Graduation with high initial starting limit?

I acidentally went over limit, made another deposit cli with a quickness to bring the limit to $1.5k and all was well.  I graduated on time (5/2019) so that little incident did not affect the graduation date.  Hopefully you're okay. Good Luck!

ETA: to answer your cli ?-  no the deposit cli I made did not prevent me from graduating without an auto cli...they gave me an extra $500.
