Everyone needs to be aware that Discover has been behaving badly and has taken it upon them selves to sign me up for payment protection without my consent. Payment protection cost more per month that I pay in interest to them all year. And trying to contact a human being at Discover to fix the problem, is near impossible. Check your statement often. Bankers, like lawyers are nothing but liars and cheats.
Discover prides itself on phone calls being answered by US based reps 24 hrs /7 days a week. What number are you calling?
They have not done this to me, no CC company ever has enrolled me without my permission. Are you sure you didn't accidentally accept it online in your profile??

That's disturbing...this is the first I've heard of this. I suppose it could have been an error, but you should be able to call and get it fixed without so much trouble. I admit that since I PIF I really don't check things like this...I guess I should...
. Good luck in having this issue addressed. Happy New Year!!!
They may pride themselves in great phone service but that doesn't mean they actually deliver great service near the end of December.

I agree: the customer service reps are friendly and professional, but altogether useless to fix unusual errors. I have spoken with five different people about my new account because Discover failed to apply the 0% APR that I signed up for during promo. *I just realized I did accept the 24% APR. Oh well* The case was even escalated to headquarters they claim, who in turn said it looks like I misunderstood the terms (how can anyone mistake 24% for 0% APR is beyond me). I just got off the phone for the last time. Closing Discover *yes, still* and have opened Chase Freedom in its place. So, OP, yes beware of Discover's "errors" and keep close watch on your account.

It's based on comission. Any business who pays their employees commission deals with this because reps will put people in things to earn the precious $0.50. Been in the middle of that on both sides (never did it, but had employees who did). It's hard to catch so it continues.

This certainly doesn't sound like anything Discover would do deliberately. Perhaps an accident on your part of theirs, but it's a pretty long leap to conclude that all bankers are liars and cheats based on what might be an isolated mishap.
Walmart Discover did that to me last year
Have you talked to them yet? I bet they'll refund it for you if you explain that you didn't sign up for it and that you don't want it. Just a hunch...
I'm also interested in what number you called, like Lexie asked.
