Discover It

I'm wondering if when you app, it's better to request a BT (it asks you on the app if you want to BT, which accounts and balances you want to pay.)

Or is it better to app w/o requesting a BT? What increases your chances of approval?

IIRC, they will pull any of the 3 CRAs. Is that right? It's been a while, so I don't know what they're doing now. All my CRs are frozen, so I'd like to know what to unfreeze before apping.

How prickly are they about util?

Also, when you use the pre-qual website, do they soft you? Curious because all my repts are frozen, but they came up with an offer on the pre-qual site. Usually those don't give me anything, I've always assumed because my CRs are frozen.

Thanks! Smiley Happy

Re: Discover It

Last I checked, Discover pre-quals were meaningless. Humpty Dumpty, SSN 123-45-6789 was pre-qualified for Discover It.

Re: Discover It

I checked the other day and it gave me a three point APR range in the pre-qual section, listing 14.24-17.24% APR based on creditworthiness. Which is different than what it has showed for me before. And it also shows the red discover card for me now instead of the Silver one. I don't what bearing if any that has on anything, but interesting nonetheless.Screenshot_2016-01-18-02-19-29.png

Re: Discover It

Haha! So I typed in some random information, and this range plus the Silver discover card shows up, I wonder if my range is targeted? I'm kinda hoping I get a mailer like someone in the approvals section said they had a three point APR range before they got approved, but they had the mailer. I kinda don't in a way because I was denied back in June, plus I'm trying to garden, which is really hard sometimes! Screenshot_2016-01-18-02-26-57.png

Re: Discover It

Got denied in May with generic prequal and wide APR spread (with silver Discover)

6 months later, got mailer and checked prequal. Had three point APR spread and garnet card. IME, the red card and 3 point spread is solid.

Re: Discover It

Hmmm. Guess I need to wait for a mailer then huh? Lol. Gardening is so hard. But this card and Chase Freedom are like the only other two cards I could want. After that, I'd be done completely. Unless something better came around down the road haha.

Re: Discover It

Jdt, what were your terms when you were approved if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Discover It

Well not sure what to think. The range on the mailer is 10.99 to 14.99, so that's 4% diff. It is for the red/burgundy Discover It card, but the online app showed a choice of colors, so I don't see that making a diff. The envelope is burgundy, though.

Obviously if Humpty Dumpty gets a pre-approval online, then it means nothing.

Do they always use one CRA, or does it vary?

Re: Discover It

I applied on Friday. Had the garnet and 3 point spread as well, 12.99-15.99. Got both a mailer and the website showed the same thing. I applied and was approved. I was denied in December with no prequal and nothing has changed except another account reporting and I think 2 more inquiries.
