I'm trying to transfer a balance from my discover card to my new capital one card. For some reason It tells me I have no balance transfer offers online and that I have to call. I called in and the guy takes my info and then tells me that I can't transfer a balance from Discover to Capital One because capital one owns Discover now..? He said everyone should be receiving information in the mail and a new Discover card indicating this.
He must have been mistaken..? I know capital one has/had a discover card at one point, maybe that's what he meant?
Edit: False information from rep

That would NEVER ever happen. You should have asked him what he was smoking. ![]()

My thoughts exactly.. I asked him if he was sure he was talking about regular discover cards and he said yes, all discover cards. Then he put me on hold to "confirm with his manager" and said the same thing when he came back. I'm going to to try talking with someone else in a little bit and see if they same the same thing

With several companies lately, I get the hold, and my manager confirmed. I then ask to speak with said manger. I am either denied, or reluctantly transferred (must be new popular CSR training method
). If denied, I call back. In almost all cases, what was said initially was not ENTIRELY accurate. ![]()
Apparently Capital One used to issue Discover and Amex cards... maybe the rep is over his head and talking about that?
I just spoke with a "senior account manager specialist" and she said she wasn't sure what this guy was talking about. She said as long as the computer lets them input the transfer information, it should go through without a problem. She took my info, read me the disclosures and presto. Then she said she was going to look into the Discover/Capital One thing by calling back the original rep but that it would have been common knowledge if something like that was going down.
I assume this guy was talking about not being able to transfer a balance from the discover branded capital one card. Should have double checked with another rep before starting this thread lol
