Discover has 2 cashback cards.
One is 5% cashback on rotating categories. This is the IT CARD.
The other is 2% cashback on gas and restaurants. This is the CHROME CARD.
Its not really an upgrade imo, it just depends on which one you want.

I have a secured Discover card, but didn't get the offer. Would be able to post a screenshot of the email? I'm curious since Amazon is in the rotating categories for 4th quarter. Thanks in advance!
@west501, chat and ask them to change your rewards to 5% rotating categories.

I will give them a call tomorrow. I used the chat and CSR said its only possible after you graduate
Just an update. Thank you for starting this topic. I called and the CSR switched my account to the 5% cash back. It will be effective starting December 7th! ![]()

@Anonymous, definitely don't need to graduate first. I had my card switch rewards last months and i've only had it two months.

Got an email today from discover saying my account was eligible for a rewards change from the 2% cash back on gas and restaurants to the 5% regular Discover IT rewards program.
I logged in to my account to check if they unsecured my card and that’s why I was getting the rewards change. It’s still secured and still at a CL of $200.
Is the 5% rewards program worth upgrading to ?
Should I just leave it the way it is ?
Anyone else received this offer ?
I didn't receive the offer, rather I chatted & asked for it - and got it. My secured card isn't up for review until January.
Congrats to everyone who got the upgrade on their secured card, but a word of warning.
Discover only lets you apply for a card every 12 months. The 5%->10% cashback doubling is only good for the first 12 months of that card, including if it was product changed.
Do not call and change your card without first looking at the past annual categories and doing the math to see if it might make more sense to NOT upgrade your card because if you're in month 7 of your secured card and you upgrade, you only get 4-5 months of double cash back at 5% categories versus just using the 4% on gas and restaurants the first year.
For me with my secured card (now graduated), upgrading wouldn't be useful for me with only 4 months left. I like earning 4% on restaurants the first year even though I don't eat out often.
So do the math first -- it may be better to wait until your 12 months is up and app for the 5% card then to get 10% back the first year.
