Discover online prequal vs mailer prequal

ok after sleeping on it and talking it over with BF- i think we’re gonna hold off.. i dont want to take any chances with his credit and i feel like he got very lucky with his paypal card

i dont understand how he can only have a secured offer online but get a regular offer in the mail? 🤔.. anyway we’re waiting until he gets a single apr offer..

its a catch 22 though cause his creditscorecard says that his negatives are his credit age and the loan - which is “holding his score back” haha! which makes me laugh since its 735.. anyway just gonna keep on paying on the snapon and maybe by the time he gets that offer he wont even need it

Was it an actual prequal?  Cause we got this black envelope with some little attached copied note inside of it inviting us to apply, with an APR range and all of that.

Got that yesterday, and it does NOT look like a prequal.  In fact the Discover prequal tool told us both that our only prequal offer are on secured cards atm.

When I put in the invite code, it was pretty clearly the standard application with just some info filled in.

Id be very wary of pulling the trigger on that envelope if its the same one I got.  From what I am seeing, it isnt a prequalification at all, its just an advertising invite to apply that kind of looks like one (sort of like the old discover prequal tool)

ty for that info!... its got an invitation code on it with the 3% apr range.. but i am definitely leary of it.. so we will wait

ok its been 8 days so i redid bfs discover prequal. still just a secured card... so i still dont understand how he could have gotten a regular prequal in the mail but only secured online? either way we will still wait till its a definite

ok here's a question for when he either gets a solid prequal or i get brave enough for a cold app LOL - is applying for discover through the amazon website the same as applying for it on the discover website? im only asking because he got an offer for a $75 statement credit but you have to apply for it through amazon..

and still just secured preapproval on the website.. which still doesn't make any sense to me lol

I never got around to applying for Discover (and likely won’t anytime soon) but they easily send me more mailers than any other issuer.

What gets me is the offer alternates. One week I’ll get an offer for 23.99% APR and the next it’ll be 13.99%-16.99% APR. Maybe the reason I get so many mailers is somehow I ended up on both their prime and subprime mailing lists lol.

EDIT: Just for S&Gs I filled out the pre-approved form online. It came back with a pre-approval for the Discover It Secured Card with the Chrome style Rewards (2% gas and restaurants), 23.99% APR, and $200 minimum deposit. LOL

I guess I’ll just keep collecting the pretty multi-colored mailers (I’m missing “spruce” and “garnet”).

usps mail preview shows another prequal offer for BF LOL.. can't wait to get home now! haha
