Unfortunately, that does look like a generic preapproval. Like another poster said, look for the word, "CONGRATULATIONS" on the Discover pre-approval site for a real pre-approval.
What's the purpose of asking for the last four of your social if they're not pulling a soft?

I got the same thing, I called Discover and they told me that pre approval come direct from the CRA and pre screened come from public sources.
Oddly enough when I do the preapproval for Discover, I get
with a burgundy/maroon discover card on the top of the windowinstead of
with a silver/grey card for the ficticious user with 6969 SN
Note the different range for bal transfer and purchase APR...
So they are doing *something*...

I put in my info and get a purple ish card on top with %15-%18 interest.. I put in my gf's info and get a silver card with %18-%22 apr...
fot1. Has Discover been cluttering your mailbox lately... The paper preapprovals changed color similar to the online preapproval.... least here
Iv been getting silver discover offers untill recently.. the last 3 offers were maroon/burgundy similar to the online site..
Im wondering if they are looking you up before doing a softpull, similar to other cc issuers sites.. and if you already have a promotion offer, showing it... in addition to the soft pulls..
Sure know discover is softpulling me pretty much every time i run the web pre-qual... Thought it was amusing seeing them all on my CR.

I had been opted out till about 2 months ago... Discover has sent 2 mailers since I opted in... Both Maroon.... Citi has been the one filling my mailbox. sometimes twice a week
I've been getting mailers every other week with 0% for 14 months and then 12.99%-15.99% after. I just did this to see if I got something different that you all, and it gave me the exact same terms my mailers gave me. Which makes me think that it's doing SOMETHING...
ugh I wish my income was high enough for them to approve me
As long as your income is over 10k, and your UTIL is good.. you getting the 12.99 to 15.99 means you should pull the trigger on the app... Thats better than their offer to me....
You do realize income is not just what you make from work?....
