I don't think this is the case at all though I do understand seeking clarification on it if you're not sure.
I've been using my (older) Discover IT card for nearly a year now to pay an online e-zine subscription, and Discover has always counted it for purposes of awarding cash back without any demur.
There are people that may only buy online using a certain card. Maybe it's an Amazon card for example. Of course all of the things bought online would count toward purchases.
True. But in regards to the spend for the sign up bonus rewards,. There can be literally anything in the fine print about what's considerd eligible.
Just as the discussion in another thread about what is considerd a Grocery store. lol

That's because that's category spend and some banks have different opinions on what is considered grocery/marketplace which is why there were datapoints shared. For signup bonuses that's overall general spend i.e. anything that can be charged on a card cash-equivalents notwithstanding.
Way too many discussions about using companies like Plastiq to pay mortgages and utilities specifically to meet SUB spending requirements for this to remotely be the case.

Intrigued by the mention of Plastiq by a couple members here, I looked into it. It seems that Visa stopped allowing Mortgage payments via the service. And Amex can only be used for Utilities. Thus it almost negates the reason for using this service? If i were to use this service, i'd want to use Amex to make my car payment. As that card is the only one that has issues with missing digits for CC #, 15 instead of 16.
But it seems that isn't possible?
