The Amazon Visa is not a horrible card but you certainly can be doing better, especially for an everyday spend card. Of course, you can also do worse, like a flat 1% card.

Right, being FSR I would say it's not horrible (you could instead use cash you got via a payday loan, the Chase Visa is MUCH better than that!) but almost any objective evaluation against alternatives would conclude:

a) Do not apply for it.   There are much better uses for your HP.   There are much better Chase cards as well, covered by 5/24, and you don't want to waste a new accout on this.

b) Unless all your spend is in the 2 and 3% categories, doesn't make much sense to use as a daily driver.  2% everywhere cards are much better except at Amazon (and you can get 5% there on various cards).  Even a 1.5% is better as a daily driver outside the 2% categories.

Re easy to redeem Amazon points: yes, but you are getting a suboptimal earning rate so that really isn't a great advantage.  If you register your Chase UR card, you can also use your UR points directly at Amazon (a bad thing to do, but you can).   You can also use MR/TYP points but at a bad rate.

So, it's not so horrible that it should be closed, just no reason to get it and little reason to use it.
