All of my credit cards are currently with Chase, but almost all of my spend goes into their UR cards, so I have a fee-free United card and a Slate which I basically do not use. Is Chase likely to close those accounts after 3/6/9/12 months of inactivity, even if I am running all of my family spend through their other cards?
I'd recommend running some small monthly payments through cards that never get swiped to keep them active. Keeping them in the sock drawer and never runnning any charges would greatly increase the likelihood they're closed for dormancy.
i have a chase card that for 18 years that i forgot about and apparently so did chase. lol. i recently revived it... i would say that is the exception to the rule though. probably a good idea to put netflix or some such on the sock drawered cards.
I tend to use my Chase Amazon card once every 4-5 months (or longer), and they haven't closed it yet. So they don't seem too aggressive in closing cards for inactivity in my experience.
For any creditor contact that creditor and verify what their policy is on closure due to inactivity.
You should product change the slate to a rewards card. I had my Slate changed to a Freedom unlimited. You might be able to change your's to one of the three rewards cards if you don't already have all three (CSP, CF, CFU). This way you can add at least the Slate account to your rotation and no loose out on the rewards points or the history of the account.
