I am definately in violation of 5/24 but I'm wondering if this rule also effects credit limit increases for current card holders, not just new apps. I'm considering burning a hard pull for my one year old Slate.
What's 5/24? I read that a lot but dont know what it is.

Never heard of it affecting a CLI

Its a rule applied to some Chase cards that you are auto denied if you have opened 5 or more new cards in the last 24 months.

I dont think that affects cli in anyway. You either are eligble for Chase luv or you arent getting any luvinAre you still using your Slate for bt purposes?
Yeah, I did use it for a balance transfer but since it's kind of a one-and-done card in that the no-fee transfer only extends for the first 3 months, I wouldn't use it again for that purpose. Why? Were you about to suggest I PC? I've thought about it I just haven't bothered. I assumed I'd take a hard pull for that and I want to save those for judicious CLI's.

Chase's special little rule is a real punch if you're a churner, rebuilder, or just plain garden-averse. But, as AverageJoe points out, most normal people (and by normal I mean people who aren't obsessed with this forum) are unaffected. ![]()
AverageJoes and Gdale6 -- thanks for answering my question.

To be an CLI analog of 5/24 for new accounts, Chase would also be looking at whether you have CLIs on your OTHER cards..... And really, if 5/24 is about too much credit chasing, those CLIs should count as well. But as gdale6 says, that hasn't been reported, although you often don't know the REAL reason for a CLI denial.
Doesn't 5/24 mean 5 accounts opened in 24 months, not just credit cards? Perhaps I've always understood the rule incorrectly?
LOL I get it now! I have gotten the bug ever since i had kids on fixing my credit. Now im itching to open new cards! I've never had credit before and i'm liking it. Always thought people have like 1-2 credit cards.
