Does Discover like spending on their cards?

About 2 months ago I didn't have any credit cards. So I decided to give Cap One a chance and they approved me for a secured card for $200. Within a month of having the card, I decided to see if I can pre-qualify for a discover card. I was only approved for a secured card for $200. I decided to wait for cap one to report my 1% utilization and try again. I was offered a discovered it cashback with a credit limit of $500-- nothing big but the foot in the door.

I know some cards like for you to use their cards. I make several payments a month with my cap one because I am always using it. Is discover one of those companies or should I use it very little?

The Discover you get 1% cash back, the Cap 1 I don't think you get anything.

I would put all your spend on the Discover...

All credit card companies love to have you spend on thier card. They only don't like it if you don't pay them back... Smiley Happy

Use the Discover to take advantage of the cash back bonuses, with use and showing responsibility your profile should start to look better and the card should grow.  I started with mine in 2016, it was my first card after getting the CSP, they only started me at 1K and I was able to get it up to 9K.  Maybe won't grow as fast as other cards but you can grow them to more usable limits to make it a daily driver as you build your profile.

As long as you pay it off Discover can be a lovely mistress. My IT was my first card and started at 1k and 4 years later sits at 8700. I reported the same income of 12k up until recently and they gave me almost my entire income in CL so as long as you use it responsibly id say itll grow steadily

Re: Does Discover like spending on their cards?

I would say that most lenders like to see heavy usage---as long as it's accompanied by heavy payments lol. But yes, in my experience, Disco is a good place to put lots of spend. Mine went from 5.5k to 19.7k in less than three years and I put a lot of miles on it, including carrying large balances under 0% promos.

Discover It: 26.5k
Fidelity Visa: 21.5k
Amex Cash Magnet: 20k
Apple Card: 9k
