Wondering if anyone can provide some insight on this, I searched everywhere and couldn't find an answer.
Restaurant sub-classifications for VISA MCC Supplier "RESTAURANT" category are the following:
5812: Restaurants
5813: Bars/Taverns/Lounges/Discos
5814: Fast Food
Some of the restaurant/bar combo places I frequent are coded as "5813," BUT this is still classified under the "RESTAURANT" category.
Does anyone know if Chase Freedom (when Restaurant is a 5% category) or Chase AARP (Restaurants always 3%) includes the 5813 merchant code for bonus percents? Do they include all "RESTAURANT" category MCC codes for Visa, or do they specifcally only tie to 5812/5814 and EXCLUDE 5813 coded restaurants/bars?
Thanks so much for your help!

I would assume they use same codes as they do for CSP but i could be totally wrong, as far as fast food and restuarants they probably do count. On side note juice/smoothie/starbucks all count as restaurants too.

Includes CSP as well, but just curious if they count the 5813 chunked in with other Restaurant categories since I spend a fair amount of money at 5813 coded restaurants/bars.

How do you find the codes on receipts? I'm new to this code thing with credit cards.
I used this Visa link to identify which restaurants/bars I frequent in my area that are coded either 5812, 5813, or 5814.
I was suprised a bar counted this last weekend no food served there on my CSP... Not sure of code used.. got 2x

Thanks!! I THINK it does... I get my AARP card in a few days and I'll test it out to see! I haven't used Freedom at a bar/restaurant since May of last year for the 5% bonus, BUT you can't see line item details in the old statements. From totaling restaurants+bar charges both, it seemed that the bonus total was somewhat in line with that total, so hopefully they DO count. I'll report back once I get my AARP card, test it, and see if I can see the bonus points on the line item transaction in online banking.
