Don't Close Fee Charging CC until you talk with them first

I have read where some posters on here are wanting to close a fee charging cc. My wife had an annual fee credit card which charged her $39.00 annual fee. I got her permission to talk with them and got them to wave the annual fee. They reimbursed her on her next statement. So now she can keep her CL with this card without closing it. The CC company doesn't want to lose you as a customer so talk with them first before you close out a fee paying CC.

Re: Don't Close Fee Charging CC until you talk with them first

I did this with WF financial Visa - it's a subprime card (was 23.24 APR). I called and threatened to CXL the card. I asked them to waive the $30 AF. They put me on hold and when the CSR came back she said the fee would be waived. PLUS, I didn't ask for it, but the APR was lowered to 12.25 APR variable (which, thanks to Uncle Ben Bernake is now 11%).

So call ahead first and see if the "account retention" department can do something nice for you!

Nice going. in the last 6 months I have been able to lower my CC APRs and ncreased the CL 's on all my credit cards except for one CC company....you guessed it, it was Chase. I have two CC with them and they have refused to lower my APR's which have 29.99% and 25.99%. I have paid off the 29% with zero balance back in June and to this day they have refused to lower my APR or increase CL...I have reduced the other Chase to 37% untilization. I am working hard to bring it down to zero also. All my other credit cards have under 12% APR. I am very disappointed in the way Chase has treated me as a customer and I hope I never have to use their card again.

Chase can be very unforgiving.  I'm sticking with one HSBC card GM and getting it paid in full each month beginning January.  Enough is Enough.

Crikey...they're out to get us.
