Is this option still in play? I do actually have a business and already have their business debit card. What would I have to do to take advantage of this?

If you make a purchase using your pin or pin-less debit, you will still get the 2% from credit card.

If I attempt to do a PIN transaction, I get denied. It sees a zero balance in my Paypal account and does not default to the 2% card.

Back when I used the Paypal Debit card for everything this was always my experience as well.

This is not my experience. I have done a pin transaction multiple times (when that was automatic, otherwise I would have chosen credit), and it would still go through with 0 paypal balance. The transaction would be labeled "Debit Card pin purchase to ..." and when clicked into it funding details would state my 2% card being used.

For those who upgraded to a PayPal business account, have you noticed a hard or soft pull on any of your credit reports?

From the PayPal user agreement:

"If you open a Business Account, you are providing PayPal with your written instructions and authorization in accordance with any applicable law to obtain your personal and/or business credit report from a credit bureau."

We'll DoC is almost always a great source for info, but I have my doubts on this one. He cites a single source ("A reader received an email from Paypal regarding their Paypal Business Debit card"), and concludes from that single data point "I assume others got or will get similar emails". And I've read through the comments on DoC and no one else reports receiving the email.

I haven't received any email. I've had the Buiness Debit card w/1% since at least 2009 or so, and never even asked for it, it came in the mail one day. I'm pretty sure my PP account was a Premier account, but they seem to have done away with that designation. Perhaps PayPal is weeding out more recent personal accounts with the biz debit card? Or perhaps they're happy with the volume I run through it - it's a minimum of $500/mo. as I use it on Plastiq to pay my mortgage, the 3% rewards with it coupled with the Sync 2% cashback MC covers Plastiq's 2.5% fee. And when I open a new bank account that allows debit or CC funding I use it, netting a neat 3% cashback on funding an account, so I've run as much as $1500 through it in a month.

If they do end up closing it on me, oh well, I won't lose too much sleep over losing 1% rewards.

Interesting.

I don't doubt your experience with this, but it definitely does not work that way for me. And as I posted earlier in this thread, Amazon pushed a pin-less debit (as oppposed to pin-less credit) and made my Paypal balance go negative $50, no 2% backup. So either a negative or zero Paypal balance equals DENIED for me when it comes to a debit transaction. I actually have no need for a debit transaction, I just tried it at 3-5 different vendors, with & without selecting the "cashback option" on the POS terminal just to see what would happen.

When you use the card at vendors, do you always get to choose debit/credit? So far I have encountered instances where it just goes to debit automatically. CVS self checkout and Dunkin Donuts are the two examples. Perhaps the system detected debit functionality and just decided to go with it to save on fee. What happens when it is denied -- does it just get rerun as credit? (Because this would be great for the 1% lol, these merchants are obviously capable of handling credit transactions.)

I am curious about selecting cashback. I was given this option when the transaction was processed as debit, but I never requested cash back. It might be helpful to try it?

I am not sure what the difference is.  I can get cashback at the grocery store using my pin and it processes fine and is funded by the 2% card with 2% cashback.  Same for all pin based transactions I have tried since setting this up.  I only use my PIN when I want cashback or when the POS terminal won't let me select the credit option.  The only declined transaction I have experienced is trying to send money using Google Pay.

In regards to Amazon, I had to go into my settings and turn off the pinless debit option.  I don't remember exactly where that setting was, but I know a google search will yeild some good instructions...

I've read through the DoC comments as well and I concur with your theory.  I also wondered if the email was connected to the debit card expiration date.

I've run almost $6k through in a month including funding bank accounts among other activities.  I've had my PP account and debit card for over 15 years and I am grandfathered in to the 1.5% cashback bucket, so I really wonder if account age has anything to do with the must have a business acount thing.

I wonder if your 15 yr grandfathered account is the reason for the differences?

Re: Earn 3% on everything using one card - LONG UPDATE

Sorry about the size of my signature! UncleB was kind enough to fix it for me.

Anyway, do I have to revert back to a personal account to apply for the Credit Card and then revert back to business again? Or seeing as I already am a business account holder, I simply have to apply for the credit card with personal information and attach it?

Also, the comments saying that this would end in September applies only to non-business members or to all of us? Basically, I'm asking so I know whether it's even worth it to go through with this or not.

Lastly, would the Paypal extras mastercard work with this? Like would I get the 1% back for the business debit and then the extra 2% (assuming the purchases go through as paypal purchases). And then with the 2% flat rate cashback, does the 1% and 2% come together or are they given separately?
