I was wondering if the trick to a larger intial CL would be to enter BT info when applying. I usually see this option and uncheck it knowing I'll likely do the BT down the road. I just don't want to be comitted to any transfer at the time of application. I'd first like to find out my CL then figure out if I'll do a tranfer and to whom. I've been thinking though---for companies that would approve you with a small initial limit, maybe entering BT info would have the computers up that limit to accomodate the BT. It would seem like a workaround to recon'ing. Has anyone ever entered BT info at the time of application and not receive a high enough CL to cover it?
I personally havent tried, but my friend did with discover. Wanted to Balance transfer about 2500, but only got approved for 1500, of which they only allowed 500 to balance transfer.
And I want to mention, Discover was the 4th choice. First was Chase Slate, 2nd was Citi Simplicity, and 3rd was the capital one balance transfer card, and discover was after that. He was denied the other 3 with no baddies on his record and perfect payment history, and about 4 years of credit history. I think the issue is he has a very thin file. Only thing on his record before that was 2 credit cards: us bank and meineke, and a payed off auto loan. He does have bill me later and newegg preferred, but those dont report. The issue is that both of the credit cards were close to maxed out.
