Even though Amex backdates cant creditors see the

Date reported? Platinum is saying its 1y 3 m old but says it was first reported on Feb 2012. Wouldnt creditors then know its not really 1y 3m old? Im going off my EQ report.

That's a good question. I think it helps your AAoA, but isn't going to show the backdated years of history, since there isn't any. Did your FICO change when it reported? It looks like you only have a year of backdating, so it might not have a big impact on your FICO.

I'm going off a paper EQ CR. I'm not seeing the Date First Reported. All I'm seeing is "Date Opened" and "Items As of Date Reported". I don't know if the online reports contain more info than the paper copies. The "Date Opened" is what FICO goes on for scoring AAoA.

I'm not sure that a creditor pulling a credit report would put too much scrutiny on good open accounts. That's just conjecture on my part though.

Yea, I was just wondering since everyone wants an Amex for backdating if it actually did anything on a manual review.

Date first reported doesn't matter. It's the 'Date opened' that does.

AmEx reports your 'Date Opened' according to whatever it's backdated to.

I'm sure that AmEx can see the correct date, so it may make a difference internally. But other lendors would only have what AmEx reports to the CRAs.

I know that when I tried moving some of the CL on my Blue Cash over to my Mercedes AmEx (opened Aug 2011, backdated to 2008), the AmEx system identified that the card was too new, for a CL transfer.

apparently any credit analyst looking at your report might be able  to tell based on payment history. The simplest would be just use the age of one card in his calculations. .But the real point of backdating is to keep you from needing a manual review in the first placde, if you have 5 AMEX cards each back dated 5 years why wouldn't a computer instantly approve you with 25 years of combined credit experience and nearly an AAoA of 5 years unless you have a lot of new cards. Besides any credit analyst would see your AMEX accounts as having prime cards and would likely want your bussiness as well since you have treated AMEX nicely for years.

Who knows perhaps internal credit scoring systems allready give you bonus points for having one or more known prime cards on your reports in good standing. Much as having some subprime cards on your reports is automatic denied.

If a lender cared about this, they could look at the length of payment history. (On many reports, that's all the little boxes with X or OK or whatever.) If the boxes only go back three months or so, they could make an educated guess.

Frankly, I don't know that they care. I think we obsess over details like this a lot more than they do. Smiley Wink

Re: Even though Amex backdates cant creditors see the

The purpose, in my opinion, of the backdating is to help your AAoA and therefore, your FICO score. Anybody could tell on a manual review until the account gets old enough that the recent payment history is "full" of payments. That "recent" period varies by CRA and type of report. Some even show the balance and amount of each payment so they can tell if you PIF.

My new Amex only shows two payments but shows opened in 1/1/1982, which helps my AAoA by adding another 30 year old account.
