Fellows with 500's pre qualify for Cap1 and i dont?

I have a score of around 700, but very thin file-oldest card is 8 months old, tons of new accounts with 3m AAoA. Util is 2% obviously no lates. I know i know, this could be the reason, but still, how come i cant get pre qualified even for their "begginer" cards while folks with bk and derogs can?

Some are pre qualififed for those cards and some not.  It just depends.  I did not check the pre qual when I decided to apply for my capital one cards, I did it just on a whim.  I was approved for the QS1 and Platinum within weeks from each other.  As take a look at your siggy you have two of their beginner cards, QS1 and Journey.

Did you have a thin file? I cant wait to pull a trigger on Venture, but will my file support it?

They probably get burned a lot by people with a profile like that. I would think they do. 3 month AAoA and tons of new accounts...sounds like a major risk to me.

Couldn't you just call and see if you could PC to the Venture? The venture would give you 2% vs the 1.5% on the QS. I plan to add or PC to one of their better cards as well.  Definitely going to PC my Amex to BCEDP in 6 mos o-o-fa-sho!

Give it some more time. 2 months is not a long time.  Watch those cards grow and maybe 6 months to a year try again.

Re: Fellows with 500's pre qualify for Cap1 and i dont?

When I started my credit journey, I had a score around 760, but I never had a credit card or loan before, it was all due to AU accounts. I may of had a respectable "score" but it had no backbone to speak of.

Recently, my SO, with a score of 530 and current charge-offs was approved for $3,000 in unsecured CCs (two, back to back). What he had going for him was 99.9% ontime payments for revolving credit, and the COs were from student loans with rediculous limits (170k). A low credit limit from CapitalOne offset the risk you'd assume comes with a 530 score.

So, your score is sometimes the last thing lenders will look at.
