I've gotten my first Chase pre approval offer for 3 cards ( Freedom Unlimited, Freedom Flex and Slate) with firm APR(s) close to the lowest rates. Timing sucks. Bc I just opened 2 new accounts a month ago( AMEX EDP and Cap One Venture). Wouldn't you know that Chase would wait until just this timing to give first preapprovals. I'm at 4/24 now, 4 new accounts since Dec 2021. The other two accounts are 7, 8 months old. CSR being the 7 month old. So tempted to seriously consider the Freedom offers bc of the cash back options but with these 2 new recent accounts and now having 5 total, I think I need to keep my butt in the garden. Regaining my account age and points lost when both accounts post next week should be my priority. Also, I might spook Chase if apply. Bc I'm still waiting to see how they'll react to the 2 new accounts( neither being Chase) posting in a week. Temptation definitely exists but I must be strong. 😅

Chase doesn't care except to the 5/24 count. You should pickup the cfu for flexibility to add chase ur points. I almost would say apply for both cards at the same time becuz I was borderline 5/24 and got my swa card and then when they were going to close out the old freedom card I just went for it. The reason being that the freedom flex is an MC and that doesn't do me any good at Costco especially when it's 5x every quarter on gas
One question that we can't answer definitively is what was the point in time that Chase pulled your credit profile which they later used when considering if they wanted to make a preapproval. More directly put the information they used may have been gathered before you had applied for either of those 2 cards. If that were the case, the reliability of the preapproval would become questionable because of the recent inquiries, even more so once those new cards start to report. It isn't unusual for unsolicited preapprovals from issuers to be based on the status of ones credit profile from a couple of months previously.

A bit off topic but I PC'd my Flex back to the original (Visa) Freedom, so I could use it at Costco gas 😎

I'm at 4/24 so I'm in the clear there. The CFU does seem like a valuable card to have in the lineup.

An incredibly good point that you make here. I do know that it says I've been preapproved since 8/4. So Chase definitely saw my new inquiry from my Cap One app bc that came mid July. I assume they knew I got at least once new account( well, an inquiry is not a guarantee of approval so my statement is false). Regardless, I'm happy to be viewed favorably by Chase after this 7 month relationship.

I've been looking into the benefits of the Flex, CFU. Seems to have some good perks when used right. I always read the advice on this forum about transferring CFU or Flex points to Ultimate Rewards.
