First Premier Hilarity

So I got a First Premier mailer the other day and it said I was pre approved for $400. At this time last year, I honestly would have had to jump at the chance since my profile was in the dumps. It was just funny because they are now apparently issuing cards with chips. Just thought I would share that.

Starting Scores - EX 547 || EQ 541 || TU 538 - 01/21/2014
Current Scores - EX 691 || EQ 628??? || TU 695 - 08/04/2015
Goal Scores - 720 across the board
Current Utilization - 12% and going down

They send the $700 preapproval mailer here with the generous $175 AF.

No thanks.

Re: First Premier Hilarity

I just got through writing a post for some insight because I am wanting to get rid of them but do not know if at this time it will be beneficial to me. I did not let my son take their card and it is a good thing you didn't.. Way too go!!!!

LOL, had a similar mailing about two months ago.  I simply had another beer and to the shredder it went.

As a litmus test, I've learned to completely disregard any card offer that comes with the disclaimer, "This IS a credit card, not a prepaid debit card!"

Old-ish news, First Premier has been issuing chip cards for awhile now. In fact, with Discover, I believe EVERY major issuer in the US is now issuing chip cards (though only a few - like American Express - issue them on every card).

However, chip cards don't improve security much without merchants support, which is almost entirely missing in action.

American Express Blue Cash Everyday - $11,000; American Express Platinum Cashback Everyday - £3,000; American Express Rewards Credit Card - £7,500; Aqua Reward Mastercard - £3,500; Bank of America Travel Rewards - $5,000; Barclaycard Freedom Rewards - £3,500; Citi Forward - $5,800; Discover It - $10,000; Halifax Clarity - £1,500; HSBC Platinum with Rewards - $5,000, MBNA Everyday Plus - £3,500

Re: First Premier Hilarity

The only retailer around here that supported the chip was walmart.  It required you to put the card in the slot at the bottom. Then about 5 months ago, it all stopped in requiring it.

Re: First Premier Hilarity

Walmart had a combination of technical issues and refusal to use the chip by the type of people who shop there. My understanding is that they will re-enable chip enforcement before October. You can use chip credit (but not debit) cards at Walmart. So you still should insert your card. At the least it keeps you from being skimmed there if they get breached. It also increases their chip use stats which could only help in convincing them consumers want it enabled.
