+1  Buy what you want...no need to justify it here to anyone.  As for the commenter above about not using machines for long period of times... I disagree.  Right side my Mac Pro is my '06 Intel iMac that I still have lots of use for and honestly, I still kick around from time to time with my old '99 Blueberry iMac, '93 Centris 610, and my '96 PowerMac 9600.  Yes, I'm a Mac hoarder!

You are correct about choice.

For me aside from some misplaced bragging rights, a $15,000 Macbook Pro would be a crazy waste of resources.

For you, if it will help you with your trade, more power to you!

$15,000?! Everyone thought I was crazy for buying the biggest, most expensive one at the Apple Store (15 inch retina) for $2600... And that's including tax!! I use HP and Dell computers in my offices though since I use XL for work. Hope it lasts you 30 years

I was thinking of the getting the Mac Pro also, it's a great design, I love the thermal core design. However I am waiting until Apple updates the processor in the Pro, I believe it's still Ivy Bridge generation which is 3 generations behind? Not exactly sure.

Back in 2004, I remember customizing a computer with AMD Athlon 64 3400 single core, 256GB Radeon X800 video card, 2x512MB RAM, 2x 74GB 10k RPM HDDs for about 3k.

It lasted about 8-9 years and was quickly outdated well before then.

In OP's case, his 32 core and 64GB VRAM is extremely powerful and wll still be above standard in 15 years and beyond.

Most people aren't using computers for video editing and rendering, so they don't need the extra processing power.

However, purchasing powerful technology when it is still in its infancy is very costly until competitors catch up.

Remember when memory sticks or device memory for phones/cameras would cost a lot of money?
