5k on a monitor seems even more pointless. I have a 4k next to 1080 both 27 inch, on my desk, and at arms length distance can barely see more detail on the 4k screen...

Agreed @wanderingbuilder.
I have a 4K screen and it does absolutely nothing for me. A lot of videos don't even have 4K. But when I click on the launchpad icon, I can see 4K icons and they looks pretty nice! Haha
