Good mix?  I just added 6 new cards in two months.  Scores range from 640-675 after 7 apps in 2 months.  I have two car loans and an almost paid school loan also.  I'm sure I'll take more of a hit until the new accts age, but I'm not apping for a car or mortgage for at least a year.  I just joined PenFed too!  Comments or suggestions?

Re: First post.....

6 cards in two months is crazy. Nice mix....yes. But you better not plan on buying a house until at least 2 years.

2 years?

You really think my scores will take that big a hit for the new cards?  I plan to use about two or three a month and PIF.

I am not a credit expert....there are others here with far more experience than me that I'm sure will chime in. 6 cards though in 2 months seems very excessive.

Re: 2 years?

Six cards in two months is a lot, but depending on what you are trying to accomplish and what your average age was before you added them, it might not be too bad.  For example, if all your other accounts are a year or two old, you would have had a very short history anyway, so adding several new accounts now wouldn't have lowered your average age very much, but would have had the benefit of adding several additional positive tradelines that will help your score a great deal once they get a little age on them.  If you had a long history already, however, adding six new accounts in two months would cause significant (albeit temporary) FICO damage.

What I'm curious about, though, is how you got in with Penfed with so many new accounts.  Penfed hates new accounts, and I'm sure that six accounts in two months would be enough for a flat out denial.  How many of those new accounts were reporting when you applied with Penfed?

Re: First post.....

Since 10% of your score is mix of credit, I'd dump Cap One and Hooters (unless, of course, they are your oldest accounts) and add a store and gas card.

I'd also think about an installment account - like an auto lease.

Re: 2 years?

Should have clarified...I only joined PenFed, not apped for a card.  And, yes, I did this before all but one new card was reporting.  My credit history is 13 years, because some of my first accounts have dropped off at the 10 year point.  My average age was 7 years.  My USSA cards are about a year and a half old, and Chase was about six months.  I really didn't use CC's at all for years, and all my old tradelines, good and a few slightly tarnished with some lates, had fallen off, or will soon.  I thought it would be better to take the temporay hit to my scores to establish a bunch of good new tradelines.  It also lowered my util% from 40+% to 20+% instantly.  I joined PenFed, so in a year, after the inquiries fall off and the new accounts age, I'll pick up their cards.  Thoughts?  Won't the lower util% outweigh the new acct ages?

Re: First post.....

I have two auto loans currently.  One from 2005 and one from last year.  They both still have balances.  I have a school loan also.  Store/gas cards are a good thought.  Why dump Hooters and Cap1?  Why not just use them every few months and PIF?
