I'm going to join navy fed just as soon as I get some free time to call them to set up membership. I've got my eye on the more rewards card sometime late next year for the Walmart+ credit
while reading over their credit card offerings the flagship card just seemed very unimpressive to me
seems like a lot of hype for what's basically a flat 2% card with a $49af and a free year of prime
am I missing something?
I had the card and if you use Amazon it is definitely worth it. The free year is more like a yearly thing. I had the card for 3 years and had the Prime membership refunded each year.
Only reason I cancelled the card was we moved and have a Sam Club and many other stores nearby so we aren't using Amazon but maybe once a quarter or so now. Plus I never used the Amazon TV app so no loss there either for me.
3x travel and a 2x flat rate card, with generous limits and fairly predictable cli's you can get on a consistent basis. But as the comment above indicates, the annual Amazon Prime credit is awesome (my experience with the credit noted here). Also, the Flagship can go up to 80k, my journey with that detailed here.

I went for flagship. I was already paying for prime, so the af is a discount. I wanted the global entry/pre pass, +$120 there. I also like the $400 sub, I'm sub crazy!
Beyond that, I haven't decided. I wanted the PenFed pathfinder, but the b@stard$ turned me down, too many recent accounts. Now I'm 5/12 on recent accounts, not including my ssl , so I guess I'm in the garden for a while .
I wonder if the cashRewards 'one-time' WM+ credit might become annual!

Oh now I see the appeal
the navy website made it sound like it was a one time credit for prime
one year of prime membership and the sub would've made it a worthwhile card to get and then move the limit over to a more rewards Amex and close
but a prime credit every year makes it a keeper
i knew I was missing something
That puts the flagship on my radar for sure
maybe the end of next year.
Just submitted my membership application.
I'll pick up a checking account and one of their credit cards in a couple months to build my internal score for 9 months or so and then it's flagship time

This nails it. Navy hasn't been very clear in how they describe the Prime benefit, but those of us who have the card keep getting the credit year after year. That is literally the make-or-break issue for me when I consider whether to keep my Flagship.
There are a few other ways it can deliver value. Sometimes they target some cardholders with generous spend offers. And they used to give out 0% APR BT offers to some existing cardholders around Christmas time, but not for the past few years. None of those things are really part of my analysis.
The Prime benefit makes it a keeper. They pay me $90/yr to hold the card.

Yes, I agree (and if I was a member of NFCU I would go for the card). In the worst case, one year they decide that they really mean one year only, and you might be out the AF, and can cancel, but providing you got the prime benefit at least once, you are ahead.
I changed jobs and my new employer is in Navy's SEG. I did apply for membership last night. I made it all the way to the last step, it booted me out, and when I try to get back in, it says it will send me a 'Magic code' via email but the email never comes in.
