Right now one of the 5% rotating categories with the Freedom Flex is dining, which actually totals to 7% with the stacked rewards. If you add that card to Rakuten and use it at participating restaurants for their 5% dining reward, you're getting a whopping 12% back on dining
Enjoy!
Hmmm, I don't think I realized the Flex had 3% dining, let alone that it would stack with the quarterly 5% dining cat. I have the OG freedom so I guess no extra 3% for me.
A little off topic @ptatohed, but what value do you still find personally in your OG freedom relative to your other cards? I found over the years as I completed my CB setup the card became less and less valuable, so I finally closed it last year. Outside of an obscure category like "drug stores" I simply no longer found value in it.
Even more better if you have BofA CCR and are at least Platinum in the Preferred Rewards program. You get 7.5% back on dining by default plus Rakuten's 5% for a solid 12.5% cashback. That's $312.50 back on a $2.5k restaurant spend in Q1 2026 alone.

Yeah, I hear you BBS. With my current setup, I certainly use it less and less. I remember the times where I would cross my fingers and hope that, between all my rotators, I may get lucky and cover gas at 5% at least 3 quarters per year. Now gas is 5% all year long. As I mentioned in another thread, I do make use of Chase spending offers from time to time. But, yeah, I never close no-AF cards. I'll use it for a 5% cat spend here and there even if I have 5% covered with another card.
Too bad it’s just for a limited time…
