As the title says I was wondering if funding a new bank account with a credit card will count as a cash advance? I was scared to do this because I didn't want it to count as a cash advance so I used a debit card instead. Is it safe to fund a bank account without fees with a credit card?
It really depends on how each institution (receiving bank/CC issuer) codes the transaction. Many have limits as to what they'll allow from a CC.
Here's a link to an older list from DoC... maybe that will help you decide. I'd also recommend you thoroughly look at your card member agreement.
It's hard to be sure without actual DPs for a specific card. But one of the first things you should do with new credit cards is to call and have the cash advance limit reduced to 0 or as low as they will allow, assuming you don't plan to use that feature. That way if your limit is set to $250 and you try to fund a bank account for $1000 it will hopefully decline instead of charging a fee.
